MIZZOU Impact

A 16-year-old foster youth was recently placed with his paternal grandmother after years of not knowing each other. Despite the sudden placement, the two are working hard to build a relationship and create a sense of stability.

The grandmother, who is on a fixed income and currently receiving no financial assistance, is doing her best to support him. The youth arrived with only a few items of clothing, most of which no longer fit. He is in need of a new wardrobe and would greatly appreciate gift cards to Tillys, PacSun, or Zumiez. Even donated clothes in good condition would help. His sizes are: XL for undergarments, shirts, and shorts, and 38x32 for pants.

In addition, the youth needs a full-size bed frame, mattress, bedding, pillows, and a dresser, as the home was not prepared for his arrival. Since the grandmother does not have transportation, a bike and bike lock would also make a meaningful difference, helping him get to school and connect with his new community.

This young man has faced multiple placement disruptions, and providing some of these essentials could help him find the stability and comfort he needs in this new chapter of life. Any support—whether new or gently used—would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for considering this request.

Urgent Request for Support – Non-Minor Dependent SB We are seeking immediate assistance for a young single mother whose case will close with DCFS on July 6, 2025, when she turns 21. A young mother of two children (ages 1 and 5) she is a resilient and devoted parent who has consistently prioritized her children’s needs, but she is currently facing a serious crisis. After a recent separation from the father of her youngest child, who is no longer providing meaningful financial support, she is now struggling to meet basic expenses. Despite these challenges, she recently completed her CNA certification and is actively applying for positions, though she has not yet secured employment. She can cover rent through the end of July but is at imminent risk of homelessness thereafter. She is at risk of having to vacate her apartment at the end of July and has no family support; her mother passed away five years ago, and she has no contact with her father. She will soon be navigating this situation entirely on her own.

To assist the family in need of keeping the home organized and walkways clear in case of emergencies. Mother is a single mother caring for 2 minor children (one of which has autism) and two adult siblings also live in the home (one of which is also autistic). Parties share a two-bedroom home and although mother is able to provide for basic necessities, she does not have funds for dressers, so laundry currently has to be stored in piles on the ground. It is also difficult to maintain the cleanliness of the clothes when being stored on the floor. This is a safety concern as it limits walkway space and there are several people who need to get around including two people with delays.

Single mother and her three children need assistance paying rent on their new apartment so they can finally have longterm housing.

Mother is currently staying at a long-term stay hotel where she has been harrassed and attacked at by other guests. She has been staying there after being kicked out of a shelter that was supposed to help her until she found more permanent housing and was allegedly robbed and manipulated by a service provider who took her money (which following a significant period of time was returned) and many of her items (which still have not been returned). However, Mother's section 8 voucher has been granted and she will be able to move into an apartment which she has secured but needs to put a down payment on. By helping her with this, she and her children will have long-term stable housing.

Single mother of 5 children who has limited support from their fathers has an urgent need in the form of a past due Spire balance. mother is in the middle of going back to work but only just got childcare sorted out for her children. While it has not yet been shut off, a warning letter has been sent. While it is summer, home still needs active gas for their water heater and stove. If this amount is paid off, the family should be able to pay any future bills.

This request is for a 20-year-old who will age out of foster care in the next five months. He is enrolled in a diesel mechanic training program and is motivated to start his career. He has an hourly job, but can only work limited weekend hours now due to his vocational training, which is unpaid. He pays his own rent and car insurance, recently bought a car, does not receive food stamps, and saves money to pay for gas to visit his two younger siblings who are also in foster care. Up until this year, he has paid his rent in full, but he currently owes $800 in back rent and is struggling to afford groceries due to his unpaid vocational training. Meeting his needs will help him maintain independent living, avoid eviction, and cover groceries so that he can complete vocational training and have a successful career when he ages out of foster care.

Urgent help is needed for a family who just had their water shut off. Parent is a single mother who receives limited help from the fathers of her children and is in the middle of getting back to work. Amount requested will get the water turned back on. Family has limited support and with five children and the hot summer months, the need for water is especially urgent

These children entered care a few days ago. Their relative has graciously agreed to become placement for the 3 children but they do not have beds for all 3 children. We have some available but still need a twin mattress and frame for all them to stay in the same room.

A father has began to care for his daughter who has many behavioral and mental health needs. The mother is no longer in the picture. The father has had to cut hours at work to provide for his daughter. Father was living out of his semi truck and since obtained an apartment for him and his daughter. He does not have furniture in the home. He has provided an air mattress for his daughter and himself. He has requested assistance with a bed and bedding for his daughter, so she is no longer sleeping on an air mattress.

We had 14 families and 51 children benefit from the food delivery on June 28th.
