Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church

We are working with a 16 year old who is in foster care and is living with her adult sister, who is working towards getting Legal Guardianship. The adult sister also has two young children of her own. Family moved into a new apartment a month or so ago after experiencing an eviction and homelessness. Family has very few possessions and are in need of furniture to make their house a home and to provide comfort and stability to the kids. Apartment is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Through CarePortal and other community supports the family is slowly getting what they need! They are now settling into their new home and we are requesting a few additional items for the kitchen to settle them in.

We are working with a 16 year-old client who has been in foster care for the past 4 years due to the substance abuse and addiction her parents have been experiencing, and is finally now living with her adult sister. Her sister lost her job several months ago which resulted in getting behind in rent and ultimately being evicted and losing their possessions. They have now secured housing and our client is striving to attend school and catch up on her studies. She currently only has a full-size mattress and dearly needs bedroom furniture. Ideally, she would benefit from a full-size bedframe (in black if possible), a full-size mattress protector, sheets, and comforter (in red if possible), a small dresser (in black if possible) and a lamp (as her room currently does not have a light). Due the instability of their living situation it is not possible currently for the adult sister to apply yet to become her legal guardian -but our hope is that as their situation improves that Guardianship will be able to be achieved.

We have a teen mom (who only speaks Spanish) that currently lives in an rv with her son. Her boyfriend spent all the money they have on immigration lawyers and so this month they don’t have enough money to make rent and because she is in high school and a mom she isn’t able to make enough money to make up the money. They currently need $600 by the end of the month to pay their landlord so they don’t have to move to a shelter. Anything helps - even just prayer!

The client is a single grandmother raising her granddaughter and grandson, ages 9 and 6, respectively. Thier father is incarcerated in San Diego. The mother lives in Canada and the children experienced intermittent homelessness when they were not living on the reservation in Canada.The father was arrested over a year ago, and the grandmother took them into her home in Lakeside. The children’s father totaled her car and was arrested for a DUI. She had to buy a new car. The grandmother works as a school nurse. Kinship Navigator helped the grandmother obtain Guardianship through Probate Court and CalWORKs for her grandson, the granddaughter was born in Canada and is not eligible for public assistance. I have provided the family emergency food and clothing resources. The client is behind on two car payments; however, she arranged with the car dealership to hold back one car payment until she can do her income taxes and settle an issue with the VA, regarding the loan for her previous house. The client is requesting cash assistance to pay her car loan the amount of $496.85, due by March 31 2025. If she does not make the payment, her car is at great- risk of being repossessed. If her need is met, she will be able to make her car payment, maintain her job and source of income, get the children to and from before and after school care, and meet their everyday needs. The client will have the capacity to get back on her feet. She has also taken a second job.

We are working with a teenage client, her case in foster care has been opened for two years though she was just reunited with her Mom a year ago. She is the oldest of 5 other siblings who are all at different stages of their foster cases, some are with foster families as Mom is actively trying to reunite with them all by taking classes and attending counseling. Mom has also started a new job and has challenges affording gas to take her kids to their services and more. The family came to our attention after encountering intense poverty resulting in unsafe living conditions and all of her kids being removed. Mom is now beginning to have more visits with her other children as their lives begin to stabilize. Our client who has also been dealing with potential enuresis now dearly needs a new queen-size mattress. She also needs a queen-size waterproof mattress cover and sheets. She shared that her favorite color is purple if it may be possible to get sheets in that color. It would mean so much to our client to receive this mattress to help have a fresh start to her life at home as her family's situation improves.

One of our mentors is incredible and gives rides to our students to and from club, bible study, school, and doctors appointments. Often, the teen parents don't have carseats so it's become a roadblock for us. Would love to get this mentor a carseat to be able to continue to serve this community, and so that the girls don't have to take the trolley/bus.
