A grand child was recently placed with his grandmother and grandmother has a queen mattress for the child to sleep on, but the mattress is sitting on the floor. Grandma would like to have a frame for the mattress, so it doesn't look like the child is sleeping on the floor. Grandma wants her grandchild to have a normal room.

Recently, a grandmother who obtained guardianship of her granddaughter experienced an electrical fire. The fire has caused the grandmother and the child to experience several losses and displacement. In spite of the trauma from the fire and the losses, the grandmother continues to want to offer the child a suitable and permanent home. It was her hope to move towards adoption. The grandmother has worked hard to find a new place and to make a new life, but is struggling to get the things that she needs. The grandmother expressed needing two dressers and a couch. She expressed that it would be great to get other things, but for now, she just needs the dressers to have a place for the clothes and a couch to sit on. She wants to be prepared as contractors and others enter home for the adoption. In spite of losing a lot of the things she had, she wants others to know as they enter her new home that it may not look like a lot of physical belongings, but she has a lot of love and commitment to give. This grandmother would appreciate any support and would be very grateful.

We have a family who was blessed with having their home treated. Due to the treatment timeframes, they will need to be out of their home overnight. They were already out for one night for the initial treatment but will need to leave again for follow up treatment. The amount listed will cover a hotel stay for the family and this would help provide them with a safe place to sleep while their home is being treated so they can return to a safe and clean living space.

I wanted to share the story of a family who came to 100 Families seeking help with an overdue utility bill—just one of the final hurdles before they could move into a place of their own. This family has worked incredibly hard to get to where they are, doing everything they can to create a stable, safe home. Through their perseverance, they were able to secure housing. However, the space was small and couldn't accommodate all of their belongings. They’ve since been renting a storage unit, doing their best to make monthly payments to hold onto what little they have. Unfortunately, they’ve recently fallen on hard times and are unable to make this month’s payment. The storage facility has notified them that unless the payment is made by the end of the day, their unit—and everything in it—will be lost. This family is doing everything they can to get back on their feet, but right now, they need a helping hand. Losing their belongings would be a devastating setback at a time when they’ve already come so far. If there’s anything we can do to support them, even in a small way, it could make all the difference.

A paternal grandmother has taken custody of her 3 grandchildren who are new into care. She is needing (2) two twin beds for her grandchildren to sleep in.

We are seeking urgent assistance for a determined single mother of six children who is actively working to rebuild her life after courageously leaving a domestic violence situation. She currently has an open Protective Services Case with DCFS and has made significant strides toward independence, having secured her own home, employment, and transportation.

However, recent reductions in her work hours have put her behind financially. She is currently facing immediate hardship, as her vehicle—which is vital for maintaining her employment, transporting her children to school, and attending essential appointments—is at risk of being repossessed tonight. She initially secured this vehicle with a deferred down payment of $500 and now owes two car payments of $206 each, plus the deferred payment. If she cannot pay at least $300 to the dealership by tonight, she will lose the car.

Losing her vehicle would severely disrupt her progress, impacting her ability to support her family, maintain employment, and ensure her children's daily needs are met. She has worked incredibly hard to meet all DCFS requirements and provide a safe, stable environment for herself and her children.

We have a family in desperate need of pest control services. In the home are two small children with special needs, dad and grandfather. Mother is currently out of the home but is starting to transition back to living in the home. The home and family suffer from multiple infestations including bed bugs, scabies, roaches, and mice among other things. They are in dire need of initial pest control with some ongoing maintenance thereafter and do not have the financial resources to do this. This will help continue to maintain two children with some extreme special needs in their own home with the family that they are familiar and comfortable with caring for them and their needs. Supervisor currently has a call into Allstate for a more accurate quote for all services requested.

The Department is working with a set of young parents and their infant daughter. The family have very little financial means and are trying their best to meet the needs of their daughter. The baby is sleeping in a bassinette however, she is too mobile for this to be safe any longer. The home also does not have central heat and they are all struggling to keep it warm enough for the baby. We are requesting a crib and crib mattress and space heater for the family. Single mom needs assistance with getting mattresses. The ones her children currently have are in poor condition, (old, with holes and bad springs). She feels very proud of recently getting off of Food Stamps and housing assistance. She can't afford them at this time due to working on paying her debt and other expenses at this time.
