A Stepfather who is currently a Foster Parent is a caregiver for a 11-year-old girl needs help with paying his utility bill. The caregiver is a single man doing his best to provide for his stepdaughter and two of his own children. He has been caring for his stepdaughter since December of last year and has fallen behind on this utility bill, if this is not paid Department of Water and Power will turn off services (the electricity and water) and the child will possibly lose her stable home that she has had for the last six months. The caregiver is in desperate need of assistance with paying his utility bill to keep providing a stable, loving and safe home for the 11-year-old stepdaughter. When this need is met the caregiver will be grateful for this assistance and the stepdaughter will not be in jeopardy of being taken out of the current home she has been living in for the past 6 months, the stepdaughter will stay in the safe, loving environment with her caregiver.

This request is being submitted on behalf of a student whose family is currently experiencing homelessness. The student resides with her mother and younger sibling. Following a recent separation from her spouse, the student's mother has been unable to secure stable housing and is currently staying with a friend. The mother is enrolled and finishing cosmetology school, and is working diligently to save for independent housing for her family. Despite the family's current circumstances, the student has remained dedicated to her academic and extracurricular commitments. She has been an exceptional member of the school’s cheerleading team, which has served as a critical emotional outlet and source of stability and confidence during this challenging time. Unfortunately, the student's mother is not able to cover the costs for the cheerleading program for the upcoming school year which is totaled at $3,598.95. Due to financial constraints, the family is only able to contribute $500 toward this expense. We are also exploring fundraising opportunities at the school site and other ways to reduce some of these fees. We are requesting assistance to help cover the remaining balance so that the student may continue participating in the program that plays such a significant role in her well-being and school engagement. Continued participation in cheerleading will contribute positively to the student’s mental health, school attendance, and sense of belonging during her critical senior year.

Caregiver is 67 years old and recently retired. She is caring for a 13 girl and has had her since she was 8 months old. When she was working she did not need financial assistance however now that she is no longer working she is in need of some help with a dresser for the adolescent girl. Sometimes the child's twin brother comes to visit. Caregiver does not receive any funding nor has DCFS ever been involved. Child is doing well in school. This was an informal agreement between the parent and caregiver. We have referred the family to the Foster Children's Resource Center for clothing. Caregiver is surviving on her Social Security and food stamps. Caregiver has a car but rarely uses it due to not having money for gas so if we could help with a GAS Card it would be a great relief to them as they try to walk everywhere and now it is getting very hot. The family could also use some new bedding. Caregiver and the child sleep on twin size bunk beds and both are in need of bedding. Their small apt has no air conditioning so if we could provide them with a portable a/c unit it would be amazing.

Grandmother who is currently a Foster Parent for her 2 grandchildren needs help with paying a utility bill. The caregiver is a single woman doing her best to provide for 2 grandchildren. She has been caring for her two grandchildren since November of last year and has fallen behind on her utility bill, if this is not paid the DWP will turn off services (the electricity, water and gas) and the children will possibly lose her stable home that they both have had for the last seven months. The Foster Parent/Grandmother is in desperate need of assistance with paying her utility bill to keep providing a stable, loving and safe home for her grandchildren. When this need is met the grandmother will be grateful for this assistance and her grandchildren will not be in jeopardy of being taken out of the current home, where they have been living in for the past seven months, both grandchildren will stay in the safe, loving environment with their grandmother.

I work with families who have not yet entered the system, and I do everything I can to help keep them together. I have a mother who is currently under investigation but is fully compliant with the department. She recently moved into a new home and lacks basic necessities that could impact her case when the social worker visits.

She needs a TV stand, as the TV is currently on the floor, which could be considered unsafe for the children. Additionally, she requires a dresser for the kid's room, as well as a couch and toy organizers. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello my teeth have been important to me ever since I was around 5 yrs old. My family and I found out I had extra teeth. It’s genetic, As I grew, the amount of teeth increase. By the time I was in 6th grade, I have around 8 extra teeth. The extra teeth were differently shaped and were impacting my adult teeth. This caused my teeth to be twisted and crooked. This caused me to get bullied and ultimately get called “witch teeth”. It wasn’t really a problem in elementary school. My teeth situation was horrible, no dental surgeon wanted to operate on me. I was very depressed in middle school. It wasn’t till middle of 7th grade when I received the news that a surgeon was finally willing to operate on me. It was extremely painful. My surgeon told me that I would be possibility losing sensation in my lower jaw permanently due to nerve ending. I lost a lot of weight and couldn’t feel my face for months. In the 8th grade, I got braces to fix my teeth. In my Sophomore year, when my braces came off and received my retainers. It was so satisfying knowing what I went through to smile confidently. Which leads to today, I unfortunately broke my retainer. The one thing I was able to control throughout this whole process. This is why my teeth are very dear to me and why I need my retainers replaced, I don’t want to go back to that horrible smile I hated deeply.

The referred family is requesting assistance with a stroller and a car seat for a three-year-old child with severe Autism. The child has sensory issues and runs off when out in public. The family cannot afford these items as the father is currently hospitalized with a terminal illness and mother is only working two days a week to provide for the family. These items would help mother best meet the needs of her child as she must transport him to and from the babysitter’s home and his therapy sessions when not able to have them in the home. The family would be appreciative of any help and want to explore all options to make their children as comfortable as possible at home.

Just over a year ago, mother made the brave decision to leave an abusive relationship to protect herself and her children. She left with little more than her strength, resilience, and a deep desire to heal and build a better future. This meant starting over emotionally, physically, and financially. Despite the trauma and hardship, mother is fully engaged in court-ordered services and every step of the reunification process. After nearly a year of unwavering commitment, she regained custody of her children. Mother has received no financial assistance or contact from the children’s father. She now parents full-time on her own. From February through May, she and her children experienced homelessness and couch surfing with relatives. Through it all, the mother shielded her children from instability, creating a positive environment that felt like extended sleepovers. With help from the Department, she recently secured a two-bedroom apartment. However, having left most of her belongings behind, she is starting from scratch. While she’s grateful for stable housing, the financial burden remains overwhelming. A dining room table is more than furniture it represents family, routine, and healing. A table offers a space for meals, conversations, and memory-making. It’s a place to celebrate birthdays, reflect on daily moments, and simply be together. They are starting over, and a dining table would be a symbol that they are still a family—strong, united, and supported.

African American family came to the attention of DCFS due to allegations of domestic violence against mother by father. There are two children in the home ages 6 and 13. Mother states father is no longer in home. Mom works but needs help with new beds for the children as the current bunk beds are old and creaky. Mom fears they may break down soon. We are seeking the faith community's assistance with ensuring the continued safety of the children and ease mom's burden with having to come up with the funds.

We are requesting immediate support for a homeless mother whose only vehicle is currently out of commission. She has secured a trusted mechanic who is ready to do the work — we simply need help covering the cost of the repair.

Reliable transportation is essential for this mother to ensure her child gets to school on time each day and for her to maintain steady employment. She is working hard to transition out of homelessness, and this car is her only means of transportation.

Without this vehicle, her child’s education and her ability to provide for her family are at serious risk. Your support will remove a major barrier for this family and help them continue moving toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Although, mother is having that challenge, she is trying to her hardest to provide for her children. For these reasons, I am advocating for caregiver to have the need identified met. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because mother is having a hard time having money to buy beds for her children due to father being the breadwinner. Father is upset mother does not want to get back with her after the DV incident that involved DCFS in their life. Mother refuses to get back with father and father is using this to not give her the children basic needs.
