The family has been living in a hotel for 8 months following concerns of poor living conditions in the previous home. The mother moved out with her children and ACDSS has been funding their hotel stay while they look for a new place. The family has identified a house in Fluvanna County that is free of safety concerns and is a suitable living environment for the children. They plan to move in by the end of July and are in need of two full mattresses for each of the children and one full bed frame for one of the children.

A mother and her 8 year old daughter are in desperate need of a portable AC unit for their home (like a Hisense Portable Air Conditioner on Amazon, which goes for ~$160 on average). Their landlord will not allow for anyone external to come and fix their broken HVAC unit, so they are relying on window units that cannot adequately cool the entire townhome. The child's room is completely unusable because of the heat and there are concerns that the amount of moisture produced by the lack of AC could cause mold issues in the home. The family needs an AC unit to ensure the child's wellbeing and does not have the financial ability to purchase one.

Making a request for an early prevention family that is looking to get their child school supplies list done. This family is very engaging and thankful for any support that they are able to receive! And the child (girl) is excited to start back school in the Fall!

CDSS is working with a twelve year old girl in foster care, who is currently placed in a residential treatment facility several hours away. Unfortunately, she has limited connections to her family and community. CDSS is working to engage with her in planning for her future and investing in completing her treatment program. The youth has requested from their new social worker, a weighted blanket to help with anxiety. Thank you for your consideration!

Single mom has worked reunification goals and is currently just begun a Trial Home Placement with her 8 year old son with special needs. She is working a job and keeping up with many appointments for herself and her son. One barrier is that she does not have transportation. We have reached out to a resource, Giving Words, who helps with donated cars, but they are not currently accepting any new referrals due to a current waitlist. We are reaching out for any suggestions or options: if there was anybody who would have a car to donate or if anybody knew of any resources to locate a donated car. Due to her current budget, a car payment would not be possible. Thank you for your consideration!

Two teenage girls recently moved back home with their mom on a trial home placement. Their mom has worked very hard to get to this point, and is a single mom. As they adjust to this big transition, we're hoping to make their space feel more like their own. A bed frame, bedside dresser, mirror and a vanity would go a long way in creating cozy, personalized areas for them, helping them feel more comfortable and settled during this important time. This support would help these girls truly feel at home!

Hello! A birth mother and father recently moved into their own housing in Charlottesville and are starting completely from scratch. They're working hard to create a stable home for their family and will be moving to unsupervised visits with their 7-month-old son this month! To help them make this new place truly feel like home, they're in need of a queen-size bed and mattress, along with any other furnishings you might be able to provide. They also need baby items appropriate for a 7-month-old, including toys, clothing, wipes, and diapers. Your support will make a huge difference in helping this family build a comfortable and nurturing environment for their baby!

Young pregnant Mom has experienced trauma with her last childbirth experience and would like to have a birth doula for support delivering this next baby. Income is poor because husband is between jobs and she stays home to care for her disabled mother She has managed to save some money for birth support but is shy $150 and is asking for monetary donation to help with this medical bill. She also is in need of maternity clothing 2x tops and bottoms (used donation is perfect)

This case was brought to the department following concerns of unsanitary living conditions at the fathers home. The children are now living with their mother in the City of Charlottesville, however, the families goal is to have the fathers home cleaned up so the oldest child can return home with her father. The family is in need of financial assistance, as they have been having issues with their cars and need extra money for repairs. To help offset the cost of those repairs, we are requesting clothing for 2 of the children, which would be helpful as they need new clothes for the summer and before school begins. The oldest is 16 and wears women's size 14-16. The other child is 10 and wears a youth size 12-14.

A mother of two children, 4-years and 9-years. Currently, caretaker is having difficulties in ensuring her children have physical needs. She is committed to ensuring the children are cared for, have their medical needs met, and are safe, but she needs assistance/donations with the following items to reduce stress in the household, and ensure the children have their basic physical needs met:

CDSS is working with a twelve year old girl who is in a residential treatment facility out of the area. She has been in foster care for several years, and currently has a goal of Adoption with no adoptive placement identified. The social worker is working to engage with her family and increase her connections. She is going to visit her in the facility on Friday, which is several hours away, and is going to bring two family members of the youth with her. The youth has not met this new social worker before, and it has been a very long time since she has seen these family members. The worker is hoping to bring books and artistic/craft activities, to ensure that the visit is comfortable and that they have things to do. She has learned that the teen likes the "demon slayer" book series and other age-appropriate sci-fi books. We are hoping for assistance in acquiring these items before Friday's visit.
