The school community closet Warrior Closet gives every kid who visits for back-to-school backpack and school clothes shopping a brand new pair of shoes to start school in. We are preparing for our August 5th opening back. We had 99 kids come through last year for the three-day 6hrs of events. I like to put this out early so people contributing can keep an eye on the sales and when, especially Famous footwear and or Rackroom, do buy one get one 1/2 off bogos on shoes and backpacks. They also put a lot of shoes on clearance that you can buy with the BOGOs too. The kids 11 through size 1 love the character shoes. The 2 and or above ones I would do something they can wear more with everything.

Family is new to the KC area and speaks Hatian Creole. Family speaks limited English and has a limited support system. They have a disconnect notice for their electricity. I have called several agencies about getting assistance and cannot find one that has funds available until next month but I didn't want their electricity to get shut off in the mean time.

This request is to help a single mother and her elementary student furnish their new apartment. The family arrived in the United States one year ago and were residing with extended family in a 2-bedroom apartment. Due to domestic violence, the family left and through the support of CarePortal, were able to secure their own apartment. The family does not have the financial means to furnish their new space. The family does not have living room furniture such as a couch or chairs. A staff member at the student's school has offered to donate those items, however we do not currently have a way to transport them to the family. The family also is in need of kitchen utensils and cookware, plates, bowls, and cups, two dressers, kitchen chairs, and cleaning supplies. They currently do not own any cleaning items to be able to use.

These foster parents are outstanding advocates for the children in their care. One of their current placements is a child undergoing dialysis treatment three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, for several hours each day. Due to her medical needs, foster child is unable to attend traditional school full-time.

Foster mom has been a tireless advocate for the child's education. She has proactively pursued both a 504 Plan and an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to ensure foster child receives the academic support she deserves. Foster mom has coordinated with school district officials, principals, and even representatives from the Kansas Department of Education to secure the best possible resources for foster child.

Thanks to foster mom's efforts, the child will begin a hybrid school program next year, attending in person on non-dialysis days. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the child's first in-person school experience in four years.

The foster family is currently requesting a Chromebook or Amazon gift cards to offset the cost of the Chromebook for the foster child. This is essential for her hybrid learning model. The school district will not provide this resource.

Single mom with one child. The family just moved into Hilcrest transitional housing. Mom works full time but is without transportation. She is having to pay for uber/lyft and that has become costly. I am requesting Uber/Lyft gift cards for the family so mom and child can get to work and school.

Hello, I have a single mother of 3 children who is in need of some assistance. Mother has started a job but has not gotten paid yet because she needed to get her licensing and credentials approved. She is struggling with gas money to get back and forth to work and to get her children to their appointments. Once this need is met this will allow mom to get back and forth to work along with getting her children to their appointments.

A child has had lice for about two months now. She has missed 12 days of school and is now missing end of year testing. Her guardian has not been able to contain the lice with over-the-counter products, and she is in need of professional treatment. I have located a salon in the area that is able to provide services at a discounted rate so that she does not miss any more school. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The father is struggling to pay for food while sending his teenage son to a sitter during the day. The sitter has a hard time supporting a second child in the home, food wise. The father is requesting some sort of assistance. This worker is requesting a gift card to either Wal-Mart, Aldi's, or Hy-Vee.

A mother and her children are fleeing a domestic violence situation, and his home was the home they were living in but the utilities are in her name. She has notified the Evergy and KCMO water that she is not living there anymore. She needs $210 for apartment admin fees and she needs to bring the electric and water current so they can transfer to her at the new place. She has moved hotels twice to stay away from her abuser, and she is going to start counseling services once she is stable in her living arrangement.

She is helping herself and needs a little more help, not a handout, but a hand up. Children's Division saw the family in a hotel yesterday and they have gone to shelters for food. The mother has a stable job and if she can get the help with these needs, she will be on her way to financial independence and not reliant on her abuser for shelter.

Mom is a single mom, has 2 kids (one of which is trying to get an internship with a law firm this summer). Mom is unable to pay the water bill and the water has been shut off. Mom was on the phone at 7:15 with Catholic Charities trying to get assistance, but once she got though, the lady said she was done for the day. Mom has actively been trying to get assistance, she just needs a little more help. Mom doesn't get paid until Friday. This would help the entire family.

A foster family currently has multiple children in their home with varying ages from different families. The placement has two pack and plays, but has been told they are needing to obtain cribs for two of the children in their home. One of the children in the home has a sibling in the home. All of the children in the home have bonded with both of the infants and would be very sad to see them leave if the children are not leaving to return to their parents.
