Alleviate Food/Essentials Insecurity

A man and his wife have lived in Altadena for over 20 years. They have lived in their home raising their grandson after his mother (their daughter) passed away. Though their house is still standing, it has had sever smoke damage. They had to evacuate due to how severe the smoke damage was on the house. While they were displaced in a hotel, their other adult daughter passed away leaving them as sole guardians of her three small children. Because of the additional children they now had, they needed to go back to their house, even though it wasn't ready. They are back in their home, but the water in Altadena is still unsafe. There are high levels of Benzine in the water. This is not only unsafe for the senior grandparents, but it is very unsafe for the children. They have found a water filtration system that will help their living at their home be safe and save them money from needing to buy bottled water (even to bathe in).

Help Strengthen a Bio Family

Mother is in need of black dressers, a dining table, and window locks for her children’s upstairs bedroom. Although she desires to purchase these items, she has been unable to do so. Despite this challenge, mother is compliant with court orders and case plan goals by meeting monthly with CSW and ensuring the children are available. A referral was submitted for Family Preservation to assist with time management and parenting support. Mother is committed to maintaining her children in her care and has demonstrated strengths, including consistency with family time, compliance with DCFS, and advocacy for her children. She provides stable housing and is focused on keeping her children safe.

These items are essential to create a safe, clean home environment. The children currently have nowhere to store their clothes, no dining table to eat at, and the upstairs windows are unsafe. Mother recently moved into the home and is working and attending school, but is struggling financially to purchase these items. DCFS is requesting the following: black dressers, window locks, and a dining table. Without them, the children’s safety and needs cannot be fully met. This request is being made through Care Portal as DCFS cannot fund it in a timely manner. Estimated cost: $300.00 Window Locks (Tripumer 4 Sets): $11.99 6-Drawer Dresser (Aukfa) x2: $48.99 each 5-Piece Dining Set (Mainstays): $189.00

Alleviate Food/Essentials Insecurity

We are advocating on behalf of a resilient young man who was completely displaced during the Eaton Fire. While he did receive some temporary assistance through 211LA, he has since fallen through the cracks and has not been able to secure consistent support from FEMA or any other relief sources. Since the fire, he has been moving from place to place with no secure or stable housing. He often has no choice but to sleep in his car, and is facing significant food insecurity. To make matters worse, he is behind on his car note, and the risk of losing his vehicle would remove the only consistent shelter and transportation he currently has. This young man is in urgent need of: Temporary housing or hotel assistance, Grocery or meal support, Help catching up on his car note to avoid repossession. He is doing his best to restabilize and regain footing after this devastating displacement but cannot do so without critical community support.

Stabilize Housing Insecurity

An Altadenian is living with an elder parent and her child. They were renting a house in Altadena that was completely destroyed during the Eaton Fire. Unfortunately, she did not have renters insurance. Right now, they are still staying with friends and family (currently paying $1,500 rent to stay at their friends place) as they are securing housing in a new place. She has been able to find an apartment for a move in of June 15th but is in need of help with the deposit ($3,000) and first month rent ($3,000). They are also in need of assistance with groceries and necessities ($1,000) and clothing for all three ($1,500) as they are rebuilding all that they have lost. The total ask I'm advocating for is $8,500.

Help Reunify a Bio Family

Requesting support for this mother of five children who has worked tirelessly to complete her court case plan. This mother has secured housing on her own. She works full time and paid the move-in fees for the new apartment. Mother has depleted her savings. She is an hourly employee and it took her months to save the money. Mother is in reunification with her children. We are asking for support with bunk beds that have a trundle in order for the children to begin overnight visits with mother. Help Remove an Educational Barrier for a Child

This request is being submitted on behalf of a student whose family is currently experiencing homelessness. The student resides with her mother and younger sibling. Following a recent separation from her spouse, the student's mother has been unable to secure stable housing and is currently staying with a friend. The mother is enrolled and finishing cosmetology school, and is working diligently to save for independent housing for her family. Despite the family's current circumstances, the student has remained dedicated to her academic and extracurricular commitments. She has been an exceptional member of the school’s cheerleading team, which has served as a critical emotional outlet and source of stability and confidence during this challenging time. Unfortunately, the student's mother is not able to cover the costs for the cheerleading program for the upcoming school year which is totaled at $3,598.95. Due to financial constraints, the family is only able to contribute $500 toward this expense. We are also exploring fundraising opportunities at the school site and other ways to reduce some of these fees. We are requesting assistance to help cover the remaining balance so that the student may continue participating in the program that plays such a significant role in her well-being and school engagement. Continued participation in cheerleading will contribute positively to the student’s mental health, school attendance, and sense of belonging during her critical senior year.

Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

Mother recently found out that her 5 y/o daughter was dx with a severe eye condition that needs immediate treatment, which costs $900. Mother is a single mother and has been unemployed, but she has been proactive and was able to obtain a job due to a high level of stress and financial hardship. Mother is only working 3 days, and she is on call. Mother is determined to work to collect the treatment fee, but any assistance would be helpful to be able to start her child's treatment as soon as possible, as her eye condition is progressively getting worse, and the possibility of damaging her eyesight is increasing. Any help/donations will reduce financial hardship, improve the quality of life for the mother and her family, improve eye sight for her daughter, and prevent the condition from progressing.

Help Support a Youth Aging Out

A resilient foster youth is in need of a bike to support her growing independence as she prepares to graduate high school this June and begin college in the fall. She currently walks everywhere—whether it’s to school, her placement, or around the neighborhood. A bike would not only make her daily commute to and from school easier, but it would also give her the freedom to visit friends, explore job opportunities, and begin building the life she’s working so hard to achieve. She would be incredibly grateful for the chance to own a bike of her own. If possible, she has a preference for a red mountain bike, and she is approximately 5’4” tall. This simple gift would offer her more than just transportation—it would provide a sense of freedom, safety, and encouragement as she takes her next steps toward adulthood. Thank you so much for considering this request.

It does not have to be this exact bike but something similar would be great. Go To Link
