This 14 year old boy has been in care for over two years. He moved bounced around a little, before finding stable placement with his siblings in March of 2021. He has an 8th grade field trip to Washinton, DC coming up in April (with payment due in December). This youth is a great kid. Once he got into a stable and loving home, and was able to find the right dosage of medication, he has thrived. He does well in school, loves playing sports, and he has a very humble and kind personality. He would really like to go on this trip, and his foster family would really like for him to be able to join his classmates. They need some help to make this happen. The cost of the trip is $1,609, and that is a lot for the family to take on, especially since they have five other children in the home.

This family is currently facing financial hardship due to being a single-income household, as mom has been facing some health issues. They're dealing with food insecurity and struggling to pay utility bills, as well as recently having to pay for bed bug treatment for the home. They already receive food stamps and utilize community resources (e.g., Just Food) when they can. I think they'll take any amount of relief they can get, and in any form, whether it's gas cards so they can get to work, gift cards for the grocery store, cash reimbursement for bed bug treatment, etc. In addition, the family is facing financial hardship to provide Christmas gifts. Thank you!

We have an Uncle that took in his niece and nephew to prevent the children going into foster care. He has had the children for a few weeks and we determined this may be a long term situation (over 6 months). The children need bed frames and mattresses. The two year old girl is sleeping in a pack and play. The seven year old boy is sleeping on a cot. If anyone can donate a toddler bed frame, a twin/ full size bed for the 7 year old, and mattresses, the relative would really appreciate the assistance. The family is also open to bunk beds if that is available. Please reach out if you can assist with used beds or new beds. Thank you!

A NRKIN foster home received a new placement, an infant girl on 11/17. The foster home has the infant's three other sisters, all ages 3 and younger. The home greatly needs a crib and mattress for the infant. The home could also use a two-child stroller as the infant's older sister just turned one. Additionally, the older sister could use a car seat as that car seat will now be used for the new infant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

a girl who comes from very meek means. She comes from a family who is rifled with drugs, alcohol, physical, mental, and sexual abuse. She is placed with a well meaning relative who has 4 children of her own and can't afford to put J through driver's education. J tried studying and taking the exam on her own but was unsuccessful 2 times. I offered to get her into driver's education so that she has time to take the test in parts, and not all at one time. She was so happy that this was an option for her as it never was before. Please help with this donation so that J is able to start driving like other 18 year old kids her age. THANK YOU!

DCCCA is working with a family who has been homeless for 9-months and the family has been separated for the past few months with children saying at a friends home and mom staying with different family members and sleeping in her care at times. Mom does work full-time but has had a difficult time finding affordable housing. Mom has found a home and been accepted to move in as soon as she can pay the deposit and a month of rent up front. The family is hoping to move in as soon as possible because the family the children have been staying with will be leaving town next week leaving the children with no place to go. If the family is not able to get into housing soon there will likely be court involvement which always leads to the risk of the children being removed. We know $1,125 is a very large amount but having the first months rent will allow the family to move in as soon as possible and will give the family stability to being working on other goals to continue to increase their stability.

Single mother raising 2 children while working a part time job. This family is living below income and all family members have strong mental health diagnosis. While worker was conducting a meeting, it was noted that the children have rags for blankets both on their beds and lounging in the livingroom. This family had most their blankets destroyed by puppies that were born last week and years of love by the children. While the home has heat, the home gets chilly. Each of the family members need a queen size blanket . Boy bed is a full size, Girl size is a twin who is known for sleeping with mom. Mom bed size is Queen. Family could also use blankets for livingroom. Thank you so much for considering to give these children something warm to snuggle with and keep warm while sleeping at night.

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community!
