I have a high school student who is in need of a graphing calculator. The family can not afford to purchase one and we have looked at several pawn Shops and other platforms to find one for the child. This would help the child with her math and homework which in turn gets her better grades and hope for a college scholarship. It does not have to be new if someone had a used one that works, that would be great. Thank you!!

Hello, I have a family who is moving into a residence after having not been able to live together for the last 4 months. The mother is able to provide a home for her children. DCCCA is asking for pillows for this family as they do not have any. In providing this need, you will be helping the mother not spend extra money so she can apply the money to her deposit and first month's rent. Thank you in advance for helping this family and this mother provide for her children.

I have a houseless family in need of financial assistance for maintenance on their car. One parent is working full time and relies on this vehicle to get to and from work, the store, and kids appointments. Since the family is houseless, they are paying an outstanding amount each month to afford their hotel. They do not have any extra funds to take care of their car repairs. The family needs an oil change and brakes for their car.

The young brother of a 13yr old had to take his sister into his home there was no other option at this time. The brother very young himself gave his sister his bed , the young man has so little and works hard every day and he stepped up to help his sister when she needed him. Please assist with getting the 13yr old a bed. This would help the transition so much if both could have a bed to sleep on.

We are requesting an Uber gift card to help mom with transportation to the hospital to visit her baby in the NICU. The baby was born early and admitted in the NICU for over a month. Mom's car broke down and the costs are not affordable for the family to fix. The roundtrip cost for mom to get to and from the hospital is $22/ day. The team has looked into the bus route and determined it is not a feasible option. The team is working with the hospital social worker for transportation options in the future. The amount requested ($88) will assist mom with transportation for 4 days this week to get to the hospital to visit with her baby. We do ask if the donor can donate an uber gift card in the amount of $88 since mom doesnt have transportation to get to the bank for other payment methods.

This 14 year old boy has been in care for over two years. He moved bounced around a little, before finding stable placement with his siblings in March of 2021. He has an 8th grade field trip to Washinton, DC coming up in April (with payment due in December). This youth is a great kid. Once he got into a stable and loving home, and was able to find the right dosage of medication, he has thrived. He does well in school, loves playing sports, and he has a very humble and kind personality. He would really like to go on this trip, and his foster family would really like for him to be able to join his classmates. They need some help to make this happen. The cost of the trip is $1,609, and that is a lot for the family to take on, especially since they have five other children in the home.

We have an Uncle that took in his niece and nephew to prevent the children going into foster care. He has had the children for a few weeks and we determined this may be a long term situation (over 6 months). The children need bed frames and mattresses. The two year old girl is sleeping in a pack and play. The seven year old boy is sleeping on a cot. If anyone can donate a toddler bed frame, a twin/ full size bed for the 7 year old, and mattresses, the relative would really appreciate the assistance. The family is also open to bunk beds if that is available. Please reach out if you can assist with used beds or new beds. Thank you!

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community! We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent. We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.

As a previous worker at Children's Division I know first hand the stress and hard work these workers go through. I would love to spread some love to the local Children's Division office downtown KC by supplying them with an Ice Maker. This seem like a small thing but they have been needing an ice maker since I was there 2 1/2 years ago and even before then. They have an older fridge that they have some ice trays in the freezer but that is not enough for everyone to add some ice to their beverages. An Ice maker would be a huge blessing to these workers as they can grab ice and water on their way to their next visit. They could grab ice for the soda donated to them from churches. I have done some research on ice makers and have found a few that could work for their break room space. I am asking $500 for the ice maker and an additional $500 to help cheer up their break room adding new chairs, tables and items to make it feel more inviting and comfortable. These items could go a long way for these workers and just in time for the hot days coming up! Thank you!

A single mom with an 8 year-old boy and 9 year-old girl coming out of homelessness after losing disability benefits and are in major need of funding for utility bills. Dad is an addict and not in the picture and uncle on dad's side is helping them get stable. They are staying in an empty house owned by a relative of the uncle and he is paying their rent for now but they are living with no furniture, water or electricity. There are past due balances and activation fees on the electric and water that need to be paid in order for them to be turned on, totaling almost $1500, but any amount helps! We are hoping the CarePortal community can contribute some funds to help get the utilities turned on for this family.

We previously helped this family with light bill from a CarePortal Request (53051) - a single mom of an 8 year-old girl with severe anxiety and seizures, and a 6 year old boy with a variety of medical issues leading to immobility, obesity and developmental delays. Mom works literally around the clock to provide all of the extra care they need, on top of having her own medical issues she is trying to address for the first time in years. Since the original request, we have been getting to know the family and providing additional items as needed. Mom is very sweet, thankful and responsible and it has been a joy to support them. She never wants to ask for help but recently shared that bathing her son at his size is very difficult and taxing for her, and that having a special showered and chair would be a huge help and relieve a lot of the stress around caring for her high-needs son. Additionally, their AC went out over the Summer so we are looking for funding for a window unit that was provided to them. Thank you for any help you can provide!
