I have a high school student who is in need of a graphing calculator. The family can not afford to purchase one and we have looked at several pawn Shops and other platforms to find one for the child. This would help the child with her math and homework which in turn gets her better grades and hope for a college scholarship. It does not have to be new if someone had a used one that works, that would be great. Thank you!!

Hello, I have a family who is moving into a residence after having not been able to live together for the last 4 months. The mother is able to provide a home for her children. DCCCA is asking for pillows for this family as they do not have any. In providing this need, you will be helping the mother not spend extra money so she can apply the money to her deposit and first month's rent. Thank you in advance for helping this family and this mother provide for her children.

I have a houseless family in need of financial assistance for maintenance on their car. One parent is working full time and relies on this vehicle to get to and from work, the store, and kids appointments. Since the family is houseless, they are paying an outstanding amount each month to afford their hotel. They do not have any extra funds to take care of their car repairs. The family needs an oil change and brakes for their car.

The young brother of a 13yr old had to take his sister into his home there was no other option at this time. The brother very young himself gave his sister his bed , the young man has so little and works hard every day and he stepped up to help his sister when she needed him. Please assist with getting the 13yr old a bed. This would help the transition so much if both could have a bed to sleep on.

We are requesting an Uber gift card to help mom with transportation to the hospital to visit her baby in the NICU. The baby was born early and admitted in the NICU for over a month. Mom's car broke down and the costs are not affordable for the family to fix. The roundtrip cost for mom to get to and from the hospital is $22/ day. The team has looked into the bus route and determined it is not a feasible option. The team is working with the hospital social worker for transportation options in the future. The amount requested ($88) will assist mom with transportation for 4 days this week to get to the hospital to visit with her baby. We do ask if the donor can donate an uber gift card in the amount of $88 since mom doesnt have transportation to get to the bank for other payment methods.

This 14 year old boy has been in care for over two years. He moved bounced around a little, before finding stable placement with his siblings in March of 2021. He has an 8th grade field trip to Washinton, DC coming up in April (with payment due in December). This youth is a great kid. Once he got into a stable and loving home, and was able to find the right dosage of medication, he has thrived. He does well in school, loves playing sports, and he has a very humble and kind personality. He would really like to go on this trip, and his foster family would really like for him to be able to join his classmates. They need some help to make this happen. The cost of the trip is $1,609, and that is a lot for the family to take on, especially since they have five other children in the home.

We have an Uncle that took in his niece and nephew to prevent the children going into foster care. He has had the children for a few weeks and we determined this may be a long term situation (over 6 months). The children need bed frames and mattresses. The two year old girl is sleeping in a pack and play. The seven year old boy is sleeping on a cot. If anyone can donate a toddler bed frame, a twin/ full size bed for the 7 year old, and mattresses, the relative would really appreciate the assistance. The family is also open to bunk beds if that is available. Please reach out if you can assist with used beds or new beds. Thank you!

A sweet grandmother has recently taken custody of her three grandchildren. The children have been placed into foster care, but the grandmother has opened her doors and allowed the children to be placed in her small home. The children do not have beds and have been sleeping on an air mattress. The sibling group is in need of a bunk bed for the two boys ages 12 &16 and a twin size bed for the girl age 8. The bedrooms are fairly small so twin bunkbeds would be best. The children will also need twin size mattresses for the beds, sheets, comforters & pillows. If you are able to assist this family with beds during this difficult time or know of someone who can assist with this need, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You so much!

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community! The family is in need of two tires for their car. They have wires coming out of two of their tires and have not gotten tires in a few years due to being short of funds. They recently have been able to start a new job that requires them to drive a lot more than they have been. So we are asking for tires for the family. The family has a Nissan Sentra 2012 and need a 205/55R16. They have priced a used tire and it would be about 50.00 each but new tires might be safer for the family as they are driving on the highway now. The price of two new tires would be about 140.00 for two at Discount Tires.

Grandma is the caregiver for the children in the family. She is living off of her social security and cannot afford to buy 2 new tires for her 2004 CRV. She indicated that her car also has an oil leak. Grandma does not have disposable income and with the holidays coming up it's even harder to afford all that they need. Helping this family with tires and possibly with the oil leak will help them to have an easier and less stressful holiday season. The car leak estimate is from a google search, it is not known what the cost would be to look into a repair. Tires would be closer to that $100 a piece number. Her car currently has Pirelli tires.

A family of a single mom of 5 has been homeless since July after being told they would be removed from the apartment due to the property management’s stipulation of not having more than 2 persons per room, and they were residing in a 2 bedroom apartment. The younger two children (17 and 12) have been residing at friend’s house’s to remain in their same schools, Mom and the three younger children, ages 8 and below, have been staying with Mom’s sister when she has her custodial time, and the children stay with their bio-dad on his custodial time, in which Mom sometimes stays in her vehicle. Mom works full time but has been struggling to pay a previous Evergy bill, which was in her name only and not her ex-husband and has prevented her from getting a place of her own. Mom has attempted to get relief with the LiHeap program but has misplaced SSN cards for the children due to being homeless, which are required for the application. She has gotten it down to $538, but with having to pay for her storage unit that houses the family’s belongings and trying to pay down her car payment that her ex-husband had said he would pay for child support payments but has failed to do so for the past 3 months, it has been an increasing struggle. Mom is hoping to reunite with all her children in a home of their own, but can’t due to the evergy and car payment bills having a negative effect on her credit.
