This 14 year old boy has been in care for over two years. He moved bounced around a little, before finding stable placement with his siblings in March of 2021. He has an 8th grade field trip to Washinton, DC coming up in April (with payment due in December). This youth is a great kid. Once he got into a stable and loving home, and was able to find the right dosage of medication, he has thrived. He does well in school, loves playing sports, and he has a very humble and kind personality. He would really like to go on this trip, and his foster family would really like for him to be able to join his classmates. They need some help to make this happen. The cost of the trip is $1,609, and that is a lot for the family to take on, especially since they have five other children in the home.

Family with father working short hours due to winter season and mother unable to work due to physical pain after childbirth. This family with 3 teenagers and a baby sister are having a plumbing problem in the home and sewage backup. The family is needing assistance with having their line snaked to prevent further water from backing up in their basement. The parents are very appreciative of assistance as they struggle to pay monthly bills and having a water backup is a added burden. Worker has called Razor Rooter and received a bid. If donor has another business that would like to donate services this is open to that as well.

DCCCA is working with a family who has been homeless for 9-months and the family has been separated for the past few months with children saying at a friends home and mom staying with different family members and sleeping in her care at times. Mom does work full-time but has had a difficult time finding affordable housing. Mom has found a home and been accepted to move in as soon as she can pay the deposit and a month of rent up front. The family is hoping to move in as soon as possible because the family the children have been staying with will be leaving town next week leaving the children with no place to go. If the family is not able to get into housing soon there will likely be court involvement which always leads to the risk of the children being removed. We know $1,125 is a very large amount but having the first months rent will allow the family to move in as soon as possible and will give the family stability to being working on other goals to continue to increase their stability.

Mom does work full-time but has had a difficult time finding affordable housing. Mom has found a home she can afford and would like to be in but lacks the finances to pay the $900 deposit. If the family is not able to get into housing soon there will likely be court involvement which always leads to the risk of the children being removed. Hello, We have a kinship placement that has a one-year-old female. They have had her since she was a newborn and are in the final stages of adoption. Yay! She is becoming very active, and we are requesting a playpen for the family. They are currently not using daycare and have been a very conscientious, loving place for this baby and we would like to help if we can. Playpen can be gently used. Thank you so much for taking the time to read!

We are asking for support for a family on the edge of homelessness. Both parents work full time, so they are right on the bubble of making too much to qualify for assistance, but barely paying rent, utilities, and food. They have a high school student that has Autism and needs consistency, structure, and routine. He loves cats! The family also provides for mother’s mother, so there are 4 living in a small, 2 bedroom apartment. The grandmother is sending her social security income to another daughter who is disabled. They just recently were told by their landlord they need to find other housing by the end of the year as he is planning to force everyone in the building to move so he can remodel and charge much higher rent they will not be able to afford. The family is also in need of a vehicle. Grandmother has a very old van that isn’t running due to electrical issues. The very well used family car has also died this week and may not be able to be resurrected. Both parents need reliable transportation to get to and from work. This family has always been very generous and hardworking, but are currently stuck without the needed resources to continue. Homelessness would be incredibly devastating to this family, especially with their son and his needs. Please contact: Bobette Sawka, LSCSW (She/Her/Hers) Arrowhead Day School Therapist/Social Worker 6601 Santa Fe Dr., Shawnee Mission, KS 66202(###) ###-#### call or text if you are able to assist. A reintegrated family is in need of a new bedroom door as one of the children's bedroom door has broken. The family must replace the door in the month of October per landlords request. The family will benefit greatly from this donation as they are low on funds. Having a new bedroom door will allow the child to have privacy in the home (A new bedroom door or giftcard to obtain one)

This mother was recently evicted from her apartment and had some of her belongings stolen from her. The struggles and barriers she experiences are through her communication and culture. She was born and raised in India and came to America on an arranged marriage. She had to learn English on her own and after three failed marriages, she has been able to make a life for herself as a single mother in America. Some of the belongings that were stolen from her were precious dresses that came from India. She has an apartment available for her to move into but currently has nowhere to go. She has been staying with her mother, but she was only able to stay with her for two weeks, and that was up last Friday. The request is for a week stay at an extended stay hotel. This at least gives her some time to come up with a plan on what her next steps will be until she is able to move into the new apartment.

We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent. We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.
