High Urgency Request
Single mother of two children has been clean for two years. The family is in a trial home placement for her 12-year-old son with behavior issues. The family is working on developing their coping skills and learning how to regulate themselves. The specialist is in need of assistance to provide and build a coping kit for the mom and the two children. The kit items could include slam, play dough, a drawing notebook, gel pens, fidget toys like rings, stress balls, and items with calming smells like lavender. Additionally, the family will need a couple of containers to keep their kits in for each individual.

Critical Request
This request is for a mother of two boys, ages 10 and 1. Her 10-year-old was placed in out of home care on 9/20/22 while the 1-year-old went with his father. From day one, mom has done everything that has been asked of her in order for her son to return home with her. Her boys are her world and she has shown that she will do whatever it takes to do what is right for them and for herself. Because of her hard work, her 10-year-old will be reintegrating back home with mom on 11/11, less than two months that he had to be in out of home care. Mom recently started a new job only a few weeks before the boys were removed from her home. Going to court, meeting with KVC intake, meeting with the case manager, initial case plan, evaluations, and then getting sick, she has had to miss several days of work which has affected her financially. The request is to help her pay for her November rent. The last thing she should be stressed out about right now is whether she will be able to pay rent or worry if she will have enough money for food once she pays rent.

A kindergarten boy with severe, medically complex health concerns needs your help. This child has a genetic disorder called 22q11 deletion syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, global developmental delay, a history of hypoparathyroidism, sickle cell trait, ventricular septal defect, feeding difficulties, dysphagia with G tube dependence and sensorineural hearing loss. This student also uses a walker to get around during the day and a wheelchair while being transported to and from school. This child recently had a surgery to place a GJ tube to provide nutrition, food, medication and fluids. This child does not take anything by mouth, so the GJ tube is absolutely essential. In addition, the place of this GJ tube is extremely important, as one part goes into his stomach and the second part goes into his small intestine. If this tube were ever to be moved or pulled out by accident this student would need to go to the emergency room to have it appropriately placed back by Interventional Radiology. Therefore, the use of the Benik G Tube Protective Belt is crucial to maintain the position of the GJ tube. I am requesting financial assistance to help this family purchase two protective belts, one for home and one to be used at school. Having this need met would help ensure this student’s safety and provide peace of mind to the caregivers who administer things such as food and medication on a daily basis.

C is very new to foster care after living with friends for the last 2 years. They couldn't care for him any longer so at 17 he came into foster care. He has had a past with drugs and KVC has told him that if he tests clean for drugs and continues to test clean then he will be able to start Driver's Education. This is motivation that this worker has seen begin to take effect. His levels have been dropping since coming into foster care and I would like to have the funds in place to get him into driver's education when he keeps up his end of the deal. He is a good kid but has been through a lot in his life, he has siblings that are also into drugs, his bio mom is in and out of jail and on Meth, the woman he calls mom recently died. KVC just thinks he could use a break and wants to be there to support him. Thank you.

16 year old female is currently in state custody with an unstable placement and is likely to move within the next month to a foster home from a relative home. Child struggles with mental health that child is at risk of being on one night placements and/or sitting at the office if moved from her current placement. KVC is wanting to prevent child from having an unstable placement by reintegrating the child with her mother. Child's current permanency goal is reintegration with the mother of the child. The mother has completed all of her case plan tasks but is struggling to find housing due to a previous felony charge. Mother continues to provide clean UAs for almost 9 months and has weekly weekend visits with the child without concern. KVC is ready to reintegrate the child with the mother; however, the mother continues to be rejected by local landlords in the KC metro on both the KS and MO side due to a previous felony charge. KVC is requesting help from local landlords who are willing to take a chance on a family in order for reunification to occur. Mother's budget is anything less than $1000 a month for a 1/2 bedroom apartment, house, condo, etc. for her and the child to reside in.

Please help my kinship family who took in their grandson who has experienced trauma. Grandma and Grandpa do not have any forms of technology and are in need to connect to court hearings and to attend several virtual classes that we are needing them to take. Ipads are the easiest way for them to connect and to be able to do what they need to do to help their grandson. They also do not currently have internet access at the house since do not use technology.

We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent. We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.

A single mom with an 8 year-old boy and 9 year-old girl coming out of homelessness after losing disability benefits and are in major need of funding for utility bills. Dad is an addict and not in the picture and uncle on dad's side is helping them get stable. They are staying in an empty house owned by a relative of the uncle and he is paying their rent for now but they are living with no furniture, water or electricity. There are past due balances and activation fees on the electric and water that need to be paid in order for them to be turned on, totaling almost $1500, but any amount helps! We are hoping the CarePortal community can contribute some funds to help get the utilities turned on for this family.

We previously helped this family with light bill from a CarePortal Request (53051) - a single mom of an 8 year-old girl with severe anxiety and seizures, and a 6 year old boy with a variety of medical issues leading to immobility, obesity and developmental delays. Mom works literally around the clock to provide all of the extra care they need, on top of having her own medical issues she is trying to address for the first time in years. Since the original request, we have been getting to know the family and providing additional items as needed. Mom is very sweet, thankful and responsible and it has been a joy to support them. She never wants to ask for help but recently shared that bathing her son at his size is very difficult and taxing for her, and that having a special showered and chair would be a huge help and relieve a lot of the stress around caring for her high-needs son. Additionally, their AC went out over the Summer so we are looking for funding for a window unit that was provided to them. Thank you for any help you can provide!

The mother on this case has completed all services and is close to reunification with her son. The mother utilizing a car that her father provided her to assist with reunification but he is now wanting it back leaving this mother without proper transportation. The mother has a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has been sitting for a year. She has put in a new battery, alternator, starter, serpentine belt tensioner pulley and harmonic balancer. She changed all the spark plugs, put on new coil packs, new head gaskets and timing chain. She has put on a new cherry bomb straight pipe muffler, changed out 2 or 3 sensors. The drivers side inside door panel wont stay on and the cv boots and knuckles are bad on the front. The four wheel drive is in 2 wheel bc the joint and shaft busted and were removed. The shaft is in the back. the right tire is flat too. The mother makes about 1000 a month and is needing help with her car to make sure she is able to take her son to school, school activities and to his regular doctors appointments. The mother has tried everything she can to get the car working again but needs help to figure out what is wrong with it or to find a car she can afford on her own. UPDATE: Our team from New Life CityChurch helped assess the vehicle and have determined that the necessary repairs exceed the value of the vehicle. We found a 2014 Chevy Cruze with 66k miles worth about $6k-$8k available for purchase for only $3,000. We have $1,000 of funding from the original request (63649, We are trying to raise the other $2,000 to take advantage of this great opportunity to the purchase the Chevy for this mom so she can finally have her own reliable transportation for her and her son. Anything helps! Please email care@newlifekc.org with questions. Thank you wonderful CarePortal community!
