Help Preserve a Kinship Placement
6
Normal Request
Four children ages 5, 7, 11 & 15 are placed with kin caregivers. All children are in need of some shoes and clothing for back to school as they had very little upon placement. The kin caregivers are taking on the cost of maintaining parents home for the children to remain in their own home, so finances are tight maintaining two households. The family could benefit from Visa or Target gift cards for the children to shop for clothing and shoes and a Gas gift card would help the kin caregivers with all of their transportation needs.

We are seeking new pajama's to be held at our our department to give to children/youth after they have been removed from their parents care and staff are not able to go to the home and gather the child's/youth's belongings. The department would like to have three sets of pajama's for both genders in all sizes ranging from newborn to adult extra large. Many of our youth wear adult size clothing.

All three children are placed in a kinship home. The kinship home is requesting giftcards to clothing stores to help purchase clothes for all three children for school. Children are in need of school clothes for the upcoming school year and giftcards would help the placement with purchasing these things. The children will be excited for school and will feel more confident to make new friends. The children and placement will feel supported and will be relieved of some of the stress of starting school this year.

Kinship provider is in need of some sensory related toys/activities for a one year old female child placed in her care. The child is sensory seeking, and therefore needs more input through bouncing, touching, and spinning to calm herself and stay focused. Some ideas include a Sit and Spin, a sand/water splash and play, a indoor kids mini trampoline or any other sensory seeking related toys.

Child does not have many toys that she can access. Provider made suggestions for the request for these purposes: "These books have vibrant colors and strong visual support. The text is repetitive and predictable for (child). There are sliding doors throughout the book, which will keep (child) engaged and she make predictions about what comes next. Colors can be targeted as well as body parts. Rhyming can also be targeted as well." "The lift and flap books and the wooden latch puzzles are sturdy, interactive and engaging for (child). The colorful pictures provide great visual support to boost receptive and expressive language. Action words, nouns, concepts (locative, sequential), etc can be targeted when playing with these. (child) can follow directions (open the....close the....find the....point to....) and take turns with a relative who plays with her." Welcome to the Zoo Book: Brown Bear book: Melissa and Doug puzzle: Second Need Parent would like to take child to community connections like the Library for story time or Monkey Business for toddler playtime. Parent and child live with extended family. Extended family has had a number of circumstances recently that have had a financial impact on the household.

Help Support a Youth Aging Out
4
Normal Need
We received a request from Colorado Kids Belong to create Thanksgiving baskets for kids about to age out of foster care. This is their request: Dream Makers is a program of America’s Kids Belong. Dream Makers serves youth who have aged out of foster care or are likely to age out in the near future. Every year 23,000 teens exit the foster care system without a family to help them transition into adulthood. These youth were removed from their families, having experienced neglect, abuse, or abandonment. Dream Makers helps remove barriers that stand in the way of the empowered, connected lives these youth dream of having. The Dream Makers project draws a community around youth who have no family to help them navigate the financial challenges of young adulthood like renting an apartment, getting their first car, clothes for a new job, or locating a reasonably priced laptop for school. The holidays can be a lonely time for the youth when they don't have a family to go visit during the holidays. In past years Dream Makers has partnered with the county, local churches, and local organizations to host a Thanksgiving meal event for the youth. At that event last year the youth were so touched that people would do so many nice things for them and serve them. One of the youth was heard saying, "I forgot what Thanksgiving tasted like." Due to limitations this year we are unable to host a meal. We are asking that the community continue to show love and service to our youth by donating a Thanksgiving basket. Below is the list of what is needed in a Thanksgiving basket.
