The family is located here in Marion, the mother has come to Smyth County Department of Social Services today 04/02/2025 stating that termination for her electricity is today and the balance due is $419.00. The department is supporting her with clothing, but has no means of paying this big of a balance.

Children placed out of the home with a relative in need of clothing for warmer weather, under garments, socks, and shoes. Gift cards to buy what is needed the most per child would be helpful, but donations appreciated.

The relative that took in the children is in need of washing machine as hers went out a week after taking them in. She is currently having to spend money at the laundromat to wash all of the clothes they do have. She could also use a fold away cot or two for the extra children to sleep on.

We are in need of help for a family which requires a dumpster delivered to the residence. The family needs to work on the cleanliness of the inside and outside of the home due it being consider a hazardous and an unsafe environment for children. If this need is meet for the family, it would help assist in the process of reuniting the children back together with their mother once all the clutter and dangerous objects that are currently a concern are removed.

This family has had no electricity for 10 days. It was turned off because of failure to pay. Social Services has agreed to help get it turned back on; however, the family must come up with $319.00 of the amount owed. Social Services will not help unless the family comes up with this portion. Also, the family lost all their food. They will lose their housing at the end of the month.

Food has been provided for family. Electricity has been turned back on. Eviction notice was given to family yesterday. I believe they have 30 days to move out. Rent owed is approximately $1900.00

A family of 4 is in need of a twin size bed. The family is currently sharing a full size bed. If this need is met, the children and adults will be more rested and better able to focus on school work.

Carroll County DSS is currently working with a father and daughter. The father is a single parent and is the only source of income within the home. Recently, the father has been out of work, resulting in a financial hardship. The father is in the process of seeking other employment due to not having enough work through his current employer. In the meantime, all finances will need to go towards bills within the home. The child's bedroom door broke, and for some time the child has only had a curtain up. Being a teenager, the child is requesting privacy, by having a door on her bedroom. The door measurements are 32in x 80 in. There is no specific color request by the family to meet this need. If this need is met through care portal, it will allow the father to put money towards other needs of the home.

On September 27, 2024, when Helene hit East Tennessee the Antioch Baptist Church in Mountain City, TN was 100% destroyed. Not only was the church destroyed, but so was the property. This picturesque little church in a matter of moments went from sitting next to the road to sitting in the middle of the lake. This congregation now has no building. However, the non-profit God’s Warehouse has been generously offered a mobile classroom by Gray Elementary School, and the church has agreed it will meet their needs for a church at this time. After contacting several companies, we have located Nicholas Transport that is willing to move the classroom over to the church. The cost for this move will be $6,000.00. God’s Warehouse is providing the finances for this move. But, they also have so many other expenses for services they are funding for victims of Helene that they would appreciate any financial assistance to help cover this cost. The department is working with a mother and two children who reside in the Galax area. The mother is unaware of who the biological father is of the two children. At a family partnership meeting, it was discussed the family may benefit from an ancestry kit. The department is requesting two $140 gift cards to assist with these purchases to help clarify who the father may be.

We have a family in need of some bill assistance. The father was just recently hospitalized due to a dangerous viral infection. This is now leaving him out of work for the foreseeable future until treatment is working consistently. They already had a friend assist with their electric bill for this month, but any assistance for their water and mortgage payment would be greatly appreciated!
