This is for an employee that works for Bedford County Public Schools who has been working in special education for several years. She is a single mother of two, a teenager (Female, Age: 15) and a younger child with autism (Male, Age: 7). The mother was born and raised in this community. In speaking with the mother the the most pressing needs mentioned include two new tires for her vehicle (she has a larger SUV - specific tires = Trail Terrain P285/70R17 ), gas cards ($60/gas tank for their vehicle), and a grocery card for some essential items. The mother indicated for her child with autism, she regularly has to take him to appointments out of town. The mother/family are very appreciative of any support they receive.

This request is for one of our homeless families. They are currently staying in a hotel. Their mom is hoping to get into other housing as soon as possible but has not been able to, so they have been in this situation for a while. There is one middle school female and one elementary school female. Their mom states that they need help for clothing and shoes. She tells me that the middle school girl wears a 2/3 women's pants size and medium adult size shirt and her shoes are 8 in adult size. She likes more of a tomboy/skater style. The elementary girl wears 12 in youth pants and 12/14 youth shirts. She wears 5 youth size shoes. She likes girly clothes. Their mom states that they are both in need of winter coats. It is my goal to make sure that they have adequate clothing for the winter coming up and can stay warm.

This family consists of a mother, step-father, and 4 year old child. Step-father just started a new job but has not been paid yet. Mother lost her job about a month ago and is still looking for a new one. The child is special needs with some challenging behaviors and is in services, which can make it hard for the family to maintain steady employment when having to take time off for service appointments and such. Mother is currently pregnant with her second child and has some of her own mental health challenges and is under a lot of stress. The family is behind on rent and they need to catch up to prevent possible eviction. This request of one months rent would be greatly appreciated to help the family maintain their housing and reduce some stress so they can focus on maintaining the child's special needs as well.

I am working with a newly single father who had not been able to work due to health conditions from this past year and their household relied on the mother's income. He attempted to get a job in the past few months but his arthritis was so debilitating that he was unable to continue working with that family member. With the side jobs he had been trying to work he was paying his landlord lot rent little by little. With the mother out of the home he is currently working on getting benefits and the house stabilized. This past week he was placed responsible for his other 2 children while their mother is incarcerated for a short length of time. His son is out of the school district that he lives in, therefore he would need to drive him back and forth to either the school or the maternal grandmothers' home to get on the bus. We're asking for assistance with paying some of his lot rent down and getting a gas card.

a 12 year old young lady needs a mentor. She is currently living with her older sister who is seeking custody of her. Although she is a strong young lady, and understands the transition that is about to happen, she still needs a third party available to talk to and assist with any questions/concerns she may have. Having a mentor will help the transition go smoother and help the family become stronger together.

CPS is currently working with a family that unfortunately has a child placed outside of the home with relatives to prevent her entering foster care. She is currently staying with her aunt and she is in need of help with transporting the child to the school that is not in her district. The aunt desperately needs help with gas to provide the transportation to school and to many doctor appointments. Any thing would be much appreciated.

Roanoke City DSS gained custody of a 16 year old female due to truancy. This has been an ongoing concern for this youth, as she was 100% truant for the 2023-2024 academic year. She is now placed in a therapeutic foster home in Lynchburg and attending school. woohoo!!! The agency has scheduled family visits to occur in Lynchburg, so the youth does not miss school. This is due to her being behind academically. This youth is bonded to her family and the Department would like to ensure that in-person visits can occur. The biological mother is willing to drive to Lynchburg on a bi-weekly basis for family time, but is not able to afford gas. Our agency is asking for either one or multiple churches to meet a need of gas gift cards.
The visit is located 49.7 miles away.
If this need can be met, the gift cards can be dropped off at Roanoke City DSS or provided to the family directly.
I, Shanae Vaughn, am the ongoing worker for this family. Please give me a call at(###) ###-####, so i can assist in this matter.
Thanks :)

Hello! I am currently working with a mother of two children, ages 11 and 12, who has been homeless for nearly a year. The twelve year old male was admitted to a residential program located in Northern Virginia in August due to extreme negative behaviors. The mother would like to be able to facilitate face to face visits at the facility, but is in need of financial support to have vehicle repairs completed. She has obtained a mechanic's estimate for work needed, and we are requesting any support possible to help her regain reliable transportation. She desperately misses her son, and visiting when possible is essential to the success of his treatment goals to eventually reunite with his family. Any support is greatly appreciated!

I am currently working with a family who is in need of financial assistance. This family consists of a single mom, who has one child in the home who is 16. Mom lost her 19 year old son in July to suicide, and has struggled to catch up with bills. The 16 year old is currently living with his father, but until mom can have her heat back on the child is not allowed to come to her home. This family has no history with the department, mom is employed and is trying her best to receive help so her bill can get caught up. Mom is attempting to work with community resources; however, they are only willing to pay her bill if it is under $300. Due to the department's allotted amount of Money, we are unable to help with the total amount of the bill. I am placing this request on here to see if anyone would be willing to help this mom in anyway. Anything helps and she would be beyond grateful for any amount of help given! Please send prayers and good thoughts towards this family!

I am currently working with a single mother of four children. Over the past year this mother has reached out for significant needs as she is struggling to make ends meet and provide for her young children. She currently reports that she feels she is worse off now than she was this time last year. The school reports that the children have lice so badly they are miserable. The school is trying to remedy the lice in order to keep them in school and the mother said she has tried things at home but it hasn't worked so far. Additionally, the mother reports that her youngest child has run out of pull-ups and they are in need of some laundry detergent, and hygiene products. This request is for two lice kits, some pull-ups size 6, and hygiene products like soap and shampoo and laundry detergent.

Single mother of three children two girls ages 9 and 12, one son age 10 years old. Mom gained housing and is starting from scratch to build a home for visitation with her three children. Mother is stabilizing from domestic violence that had led to homelessness and legal trouble. She is working in depth with TAP/WINGS program and showing growth and stability. Donations will help ensure a safe haven for visits with the children and a sense of belonging when visiting as the children will have their own bedrooms. The beds are the most essential need for this family. Though less essential, the family would also benefit from these additional items if churches have them to donate: 9 and 12 year old girl and toys for a 10 year old boy, storage for toys and storage bins for clothes, Children's books, Kitchen and bath towels, a microwave, cups, toiletries needed for sensitive skin, and a washer and a dryer.
