There is a family here in Bedford that has been on a waitlist for income based housing and had to reside in a motel until they have the financial means to move otherwise. Recently, there was a trailer through a private landlord that offered to rent to them but since they are on a fixed income - coming up with all the money to cover initial move in costs has found to be extremely difficult. All the family needs at this point is money for their water deposit in order to get their water turned on. If this need is met, the family will finally be able to move out of the motel and into more sustainable, safer housing.

A single mom with three young children is currently in need of beds for her two toddlers. The whole family currently sleeps together in a queen-sized bed which is both a safety hazardous and a hinderance to their well-being as the mother is unable to sleep through the night. The family is requesting a twin-size bed/mattress for the 4-year-old and a toddler bed/mattress for the 2-year-old. Additionally, the family is in need of another dresser as the space they are staying in does not have closets causing storage to be limited. A gently used dresser would be accepted if donated.

A student is needing dental work pretty severly. The sibling just had dental work done a few months ago and the family can not afford to cover the dental work their second child is now needing.

The procedure was schedule, but the clinic would not proceed with it until the $100 from his previous appointment was paid for and the total for Phase 1 ($1,338.00) is paid. School personel has spoken with the dental office and they will not set the family up on a payment plan. Once phase 1 is done, they will then make an appointment for Phase 2, and again will not proceed with it until it is paid for ahead of time.

The proposed bill is $2,466.00 total.

We have a family here in Bedford that is currently residing at the Bedford Motel due to their home situation that became dangerous and they had to flee at a moments notice. They were able to cover 2 weeks worth of stay at the Bedford Motel but have been looking for housing that is within their budget. A trailer has become available but money is already tight, let alone paying for a first months rent, security deposit and a $300 water deposit. She has been reaching out for financial assistance within the community but continues to come up short and is seeking any kind of help possible to cover some of the initial expenses. If this need is met, not only will the mother and daughter have stable housing but they will be in a safe environment where they can attend school/work without additional stressors.

The Department has been working with this family for a while. Mom has been without a vehicle for quite some time, and has had to rely on friends and the department to get to her appointments, and to transport her children. Mom recently acquired a vehicle, which now has an oil leak.
Mom has 2 children. Her 16 year old lives is in a group home, in another county, and she needs a vehicle to be able to visit him and spend time with him outside of agency meetings.
Mom has some health issues in which she needs to travel to the doctor in Lynchburg for.
Please consider helping this family to get Mom's care fixed, so that she is able to be less dependent on others.

I have a family in need of assistance to keep their power on. This single mother of 3 has had difficulty keeping up with her bills. Anything you could do to assist would be greatly appreciated.

Currently single mother of 2 is in need of help to pay electric bill that has a cut off notice of 4/7/25. She is struggling with her bills as is and then had this bill come up that was 3x the normal payment she is used to. She really needs help and assistance to keep her electricity on for herself and for her 2 children. Thank you so much for any help you can provide!!

The Department is currently assisting a family in urgent need. The home has significant mold issues, forcing the family to evacuate over the weekend. The grandparents, who have full custody of their three grandchildren, are facing ongoing financial struggles. The grandfather has limited mobility and is unable to support his wife, while the grandmother is the sole provider for the family, as they have been struggling to secure their disability check. The family is working closely with the Department to find a long-term solution that ensures the health and safety of the children. It would be greatly appreciated if a church could step in to help clean the home and support this family during this difficult time.

A local family was just displaced from their home with only a day notice. They have found a new home to rent, but need help obtaining a security deposit + rent on such short notice for the amount of $1,400 total. The family would also be appreciative of any food gift cards or donations if possible.
