A single mother of 4 young children needs help. There are 3 girls and 1 boy, ages 7-11. The children's father recently passed away and their mother is trying her best. The children need proper beds to sleep in, they are currently sharing one bed with their mother or sleeping on the floor. The mother works night shift, so beds would provide some comfort to the children. Providing these beds will improve the children's quality of life and will greatly benefit the family.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia would like to spotlight our “Tuesday’s Little.”
This “Tuesday’s Little” is a 7-year-old African American female who is in the 2nd grade. She is described by her mother as being outgoing, very outspoken, feisty and ambitious.
Her interests include art, drawing, doing hair and math. She enjoys participating in activities in the community such as eating out and going to the movies. She would enjoy a Big Sister (mentor) who shares the same interests and who also likes outdoor activities including going to the park. Her favorite color is pink and she has dreams of one day becoming a nurse.
While she excels in math, she does struggle with reading so she would benefit from a Big Sister (Mentor) who could take the time to help boost her self-esteem with reading. She has great potential in succeeding in school but her outspoken attitude often hinders her reaching her full potential academically.
If you are interested and feel that you can contribute positively to this amazing 7-year-old girl, please feel free to respond to this request today! We ask that our volunteers be at least 18 years old and are able to commit to be a Big for at least a full calendar year.
You are not approved to serve Tier 2 - Relational Needs requests.

A community member is available and willing to come alongside this family to mentor this child. We are taking the lead and working out the details.
I am working with a family of 6, that has been through quite a bit of loss in the past few years. As the parents were trying to work through their grief, and be strong for their children, some issues have arisen, and been put off, around the house.
First, and most importantly, the floor in their children's bathroom is rotten under the bathtub. It is still usable, however a prayer is said before the children bathe and shower.
The subfloors through most of the trailer are rotten, and dad recently stepped through the floor in their hallway.
Also, the front door of their home has been damaged and needs to be replaced.
I would like to add that the parents do not like asking for help, and have been very appreciative of anything I have been able to help them with, so when they shared with me the extent of their current needs, I knew I needed to try and reach out to a larger group to help this family.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration of this project.
***An explanation of the estimated costs. I received and estimate from a contractor of $1800 for supplies. And total job costs if performed by a contractor, to be $3600-$4000.

Mike:
Is it possible to know the gerenal vicinity of the home? I have some guys in the Lynchburg area that may be able to help but depending on where in Bedford County this is it may not logistically be possible.

Can I get the address for this request so our home repair coordinator can take a look at this job?
This family recently moved into a larger unit to better accommodate them and into a safer neighborhood. The unit has stairs and the prior unit does not. The youngest child is 3 and is not accustomed to navigating stairs.
Mom of bubbly, active 2-year-old suffers a rare and fatal genetic disorder that results in sporadic paralysis of both arms. She has tried repeatedly to work, but has had to leave each job as her disorder flares up. She's currently unable to work and seeking disability. The local Dept. of Social Services has an active case open for the family based on needed home repairs and trash removal. Husband works full-time and has limited ability to work on home repairs. The family's truck is inoperable and they cannot haul off trash. Their lawnmower is also broken. Mom's primary hope is that a volunteer crew can help them with minor home repairs, cleaning the yard, and cutting the grass in advance of the upcoming DSS home visit. She is extremely concerned that her daughter may be removed from the home given its current condition. A devoted, loving and attentive mom, she's also seeking friendships and overall social capital as she reports her family is not supportive.
