There is a family here in Bedford that has been on a waitlist for income based housing and had to reside in a motel until they have the financial means to move otherwise. Recently, there was a trailer through a private landlord that offered to rent to them but since they are on a fixed income - coming up with all the money to cover initial move in costs has found to be extremely difficult. All the family needs at this point is money for their water deposit in order to get their water turned on. If this need is met, the family will finally be able to move out of the motel and into more sustainable, safer housing.

I am working with a single mom and her 4 sons ages 19, 18, 15, and 12. This mom is working hard to take care of her boys but has recently experienced a death in her family, two house fires, and a serious car wreck. These events have all significantly affected her ability to work, their housing situation, family's functioning and resources. This family is currently living in a home without electricity and is having great difficulty securing it. The mom has done her research on the steps required to get electricity in her home, but due to being unemployed because of the wreck, she is lacking the finances to supply it. The overall cost for an electrician visit, invoice, permit, and electricity box will equal to around $200.

Also, this family is need of a queen sized bedframe and clothing for her sons. The sons sizes are as follows: 1st son: 36 or large in pants, large in shirts, size 9.5 in shoes 2nd son: 36 or large in pants, large in shirts, 9 in shoes 3rd son: 31/32 or large in pants, large in shirts, 9 in shoes 4th son: 31/21 or medium in pants, medium shirts, 9.5 shoes

A single mom with three young children is currently in need of beds for her two toddlers. The whole family currently sleeps together in a queen-sized bed which is both a safety hazardous and a hinderance to their well-being as the mother is unable to sleep through the night. The family is requesting a twin-size bed/mattress for the 4-year-old and a toddler bed/mattress for the 2-year-old. Additionally, the family is in need of another dresser as the space they are staying in does not have closets causing storage to be limited. A gently used dresser would be accepted if donated.

A student is needing dental work pretty severly. The sibling just had dental work done a few months ago and the family can not afford to cover the dental work their second child is now needing.

The procedure was schedule, but the clinic would not proceed with it until the $100 from his previous appointment was paid for and the total for Phase 1 ($1,338.00) is paid. School personel has spoken with the dental office and they will not set the family up on a payment plan. Once phase 1 is done, they will then make an appointment for Phase 2, and again will not proceed with it until it is paid for ahead of time.

The proposed bill is $2,466.00 total.

A mother is in the process of moving herself and her children out of her ex-partner’s home to begin a fresh start. She is in need of essential furniture to help create a safe and comfortable new space for her family. Specifically, she is looking for beds — ideally a full-size, a queen, and a toddler bed. Additionally, any dressers, a dining table with chairs, or other household items that could support this transition would be deeply appreciated. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference during this important time of rebuilding.

Hello! A grandmother recently became emergency approved as a foster parent for her 5 year old granddaughter through our agency. She is currently going through a divorce while now trying to raise her granddaughter. She is in need of a twin sized trundle bed and mattress so that the child has an appropriate place to sleep in her home. Currently the child is sleeping in her bed, and she is sleeping on the sofa. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We have a family here in Bedford that is currently residing at the Bedford Motel due to their home situation that became dangerous and they had to flee at a moments notice. They were able to cover 2 weeks worth of stay at the Bedford Motel but have been looking for housing that is within their budget. A trailer has become available but money is already tight, let alone paying for a first months rent, security deposit and a $300 water deposit. She has been reaching out for financial assistance within the community but continues to come up short and is seeking any kind of help possible to cover some of the initial expenses. If this need is met, not only will the mother and daughter have stable housing but they will be in a safe environment where they can attend school/work without additional stressors.

A family has recently undergone a house fire and lost all of their belongings. This family has specifically requested help in getting their 7 year-old daughter some new clothes and belongings. The child wears 10/12 clothes and wears shoe size 1. She will also need undergarments, socks, and any essential items- as she has lost everything.

Anything to help is appreciated.

Single mother who moved to the Lynchburg area with her elementary aged son and daughter. Mom has made sure the kid have almost everything they need, often neglecting herself. Mom just has a mattress on the floor, is in need of a bed frame, and 2 dressers.

Mom of two. Son have significant behavioral concerns that causes him to run out of the home. Mom lives about 500 ft from a busy main road. Mom would like safety locks for the front and back door. Another need is dressers for mom and 2 kids (1 girl, 1 boy).

Mom who has been in a Domestic Violence relationship, recent incident cause mom to have an busted lip, dislocated jaw that is requiring her to need reconstructive surgery. This family is in need of a bed for mom as she has been sleeping on an air mattress since she moved in Nov. and a sofa to give her and her son a place to sit, so they don't have to spend all their time in the bedroom.

Single mom raising two young children, a 2-year old boy and a 7-year-old girl. Summer is fast approaching, and when the school year ends, the 7-year-old will need childcare so that mom can continue to work. Mom would love for her daughter to be enrolled in a summer camp, but she cannot afford any of the ones that she has found so far. This young girl, in the 2nd grade, is reading at a 5th grade level! She is not only academically gifted, but is also sweet, sensitive, and kind. Mom just recently got back on her feet after a number of setbacks, including the loss of her own mother, who was her only stabile family support, and the realization that she could not continue to put herself through nursing school and work the long shift hours with two young children, and no help. Mom is the sole income-provider and has been fighting to give her children a better life. Mom has found a new job that she loves and that accommodates her schedule with her children, but it does not pay much. Mom has plans to go back to school to be an Ultrasound Technician within the next year. Any support in helping fund her daughter's enrollment in a summer camp is very much appreciated! For a cost breakdown, it is $50 a month for her daughter to attend the same daycare that her son goes to, and summer lasts 6 weeks.
