Single mother and daughter lost most of their items in an apartment flood. They relocated to a new apartment and have already had significant maintenance issues in the new home as well. Family is requesting twin bed frame (they have the mattress) and bedding for the daughter, basic kitchen items and cleaning supplies as they work to settle into their new apartment.
An unemployed father is waiting for his disability funding and dealing with a severe illness. His wife is able to work but is not able to support all the family's expenses with her job. Family was unable to pay May rent and will be facing eviction if $1220 in financial assistance is not obtained.
I recently began working with a family where the mom had to place this child out with relatives, however relatives reside in Lynchburg. The relative took the child in without notice and they do not have the means to splurge on the child. The child came to Lynchburg without much clothing. The child is 13, approx. 6'0. The relative has asked for assistance with getting him some underwear, socks, shoes and t-shirts. The 13-year-old wears plain t-shirts, and skinny jeans. The relative does commute to Roanoke so that mom and son are able to meet. Mom has mental health and substance use issues. She is currently not working and will need a lot of assistance in general. But for the time being, I'd love for her child to get clothes, because he does not have much. The child is bright, loves school, and being outside in the community. If anyone has donated clothing or wants to donate a gift card so that the relative can get him clothing, that would be so helpful. I predict that the child will be with the relative for at least 5 months.
Child has 32 waist size, medium size shirts, shoe size 11 is what I was able to obtain from the relative.

Three children, ages 5, 4, and 3, were leaving in horrible conditions. Trash everywhere, flies, bugs, dishes, no airflow, etc. The bio mother and father tested positive for drugs. The parents are from California, but recently moved to Virginia for a "new start." The family in California have been so gracious to fly here on a whim to retrieve the children so the children do not end in Foster Care. The family has paid over $3,000 for the last minute flight to get the children. The bio parents obviously did not have anything for the children so I am asking for anything to help this family in California who have taken on these children. Walmart, Target, Visa giftcards or places to eat. The children are being reunited with all their cousins, and grandparents in California today. The grandfather has cancer and not doing well and is very happy to see his grandchildren again. Anything helps! Updated on May 08, 2023 by an Agency Worker $450 has been fulfilled! I would love to get someone to match this :)

I am the caseworker for a medically fragile child in foster care, she is about 9 months old. Her mother is a single mother living in Roanoke, VA and is working on getting her own place. I am asking if anybody would be able to assist in a new bus pass for her from Valley Metro. She previously utilized a 31-day Unlimited Pass which is about $57.68 and can be bought at the main Valley Metro bus station. The bus is her only transportation to and from visitation with her child, as well as work, and would help her out a lot. She is working to make money to get stable housing and provide for her child but could use this extra assistance. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thank you!

I am working with a family of five. The parents have three children under the ages of 9yrs old one of which has special needs. They have reached out and asked for assistance with getting a new refrigerator. Their current refrigerator sometimes quits cooling, freezes up and leaks. They have had food spoil as a result. This family is on a very strict and limited income. Anything can help. The family is also not opposed to a used refrigerator just as long as it works and can meet the needs of their family.

A single mother of 8 is attempting to reunify with her oldest child who has been placed out of the home for several months to receive psychiatric care. The child has made tremendous progress to the point that the team hopes to discharge him back home over the next two months, but housing has continued to be a primary barrier. The current living situation is not one that the child could return to, so housing is needed before reunification can occur. The mother has participated well throughout the case and has identified a potential rental property, but needs a security deposit and first month’s rent totalling $1850. We are requesting that CarePortal meet a portion of this need.
