Help Prevent a Child From Entering Foster Care

Critical Request
Single mother with four kids ages 4 months to 7 years old. This family just moved back into Kansas from a infested Missouri home. This family's current sofa and love seat are in bad condition as they were infested with insects at their former home. The mother is grateful to be out of the former living conditions and is needing furniture that she and her children can utilize to be together in Livingroom and kitchen. This single mother is in need of living room seating and a rectangle kitchen table with chairs. Their kitchen is small though a rectangle table will work great as it can sit against the window. The children like sitting together at the table for meals. Currently the family has a abused sofa and love seat in the living room. Donor could provide a sectional or a love seat/sofa . Thank you for considering and if any questions feel free to reach out.

Foster family in need of financial assistance. The family was financially struggling before taking a relative foster child into care. The family graciously accepted the child into their home, creating a more significant financial burden. This placement forfeited some work hours to care for the child, placing them even further behind on some of their utilities. The family is working towards obtaining financial education and budgeting to help get them on the right track, but some financial assistance to help keep their utilities on would help to preserve this kinship family foster home. Could you possibly help provide some cash assistance directly to a utility company? Thank you for your consideration.

This family could use 2 twin beds. In this family there are 6 children: 3 boys ages 16, 14, 12, and 3 girls ages 17, 12, and 11. The family came to our attention again when the eldest boy was admitted to psych. The mother would not allow Children's Division in the home and brought the children to the office for Children's Division to assure safety. Children's Division noticed in the history that none of the previous workers have been in the home. The family has mental health services, and that case worker has also never been in the home. After the eldest boy disclosed some concerns of the household conditions, Children's Division pressed the mother as to why she did not want Children's Division in the home and she said, "I know what will happen". When the family lived in CA the children were placed into state's custody and the mother was afraid that the same thing would happen in MO. Children's Division was able to get the mother to allow us in the home and it was determined that the children are living in unsanitary conditions. Since Children's Division initial contact with the family, they have started to clean the home, but they are in need of disposing mattresses. The eldest boy has his own room but the other 5 are sharing a small bedroom and sleeping on mattresses on the floor. The family had bed frames but is in need of mattresses (2 twin mattresses).

Hello, I am an Intensive In-Home specialist with Cornerstones of Care, and I am currently working with a pregnant mom and her four children (ages 4,3,2, & 1 year old) to help prevent removal. I am making this request on behave of the family to help family overcome financial barriers. Recently the family experienced a traumatic life-threatening event, that lead to one of the children being hospitalized. Thankfully the child has been able to make full recovery and is home now. Due to this event family was referral to our Intensive In-home program to help strengthen bio-family and keep children safe. While working with the family I have discovered that mom is in need of some safety items like a car seat/booster seat for her oldest child. Mom shared that she has car seat for her other three children however, not for the four-year-old. During my program I have went over car seat education with mom and due to child's age, weight, and height she very much so needs to be in a car seat/booster with back. But family does not currently have the financial means to buy one. Therefore, I am asking for your help. By helping this family get a car seat you would be helping mom overcome financial stress as well as ensure child is safe while riding in a car. Thank you for your help.

Hello, I am an Intensive in-home specialist with Cornerstones of Care, and I am currently working with a young pregnant mother (age 23) and her four young children (ages 4, 3, 2, 1 and unborn child). The family is in need of a pack-n-play for the baby who may be here in the next couple of weeks. Helping family meet this need will ensure that baby has a safe space to sleep and help family practice safe sleep habits. In addition, family could use two baby gates to help keep children out of the kitchen and bathroom. As the children are very young and mobile and like to climb on things. Mother has shared that the two young's children often climb into bathtub and turn on water. This could be very dangerous, as children could unintentionally slip and hurt themselves and or turn on hot water and get burn. A baby gate will help keep children out of the restroom. Lastly, mom has asked, if possible, to get a baby tub for the new baby. She shares that, this is one of the last items she needs for baby and would appreciate the help as her financial situation does not allow her to buy this items. The mother does work however, does not currently have the financial means to buy these items. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read the request and for all that you do. Items needed Pack and play (mom is having a boy) baby bath two baby gates

This request impacts multiple families.

I am a school social worker at Gerner Family Education Center. Our building services ages 3-5 all of which have a variety of needs that are accommodated via special education or meet income requirements for our programming. One area that we have seen as a huge need is for diapers and pull ups. Because WIC limitations and the every rising cost of these items, we have experiencing several families that are not able to provide the appropriate amount of pull ups and diapers to meet the needs of their child. We have had several families that have to stretch their diapers beyond their use time which is causing potential skin rashes and overall discomfort for our already disadvantaged children. By having a supply of readily available pull ups and wipes for classroom and parent use would drastically fill a huge need. The size of diapers are as follows: Size 1 (infant) 2 boxes Size 3T, 4T and 5T pull ups... Enough to give one box to each classroom. Happy Bottoms has been a great resource however with a need this large they are not able to assist. Special Instructions: The size of diapers are as follows: Size 1 (infant) 2 boxes Size 3T, 4T and 5T pull ups... Enough to give one box to each high need classroom (we have around 10 high need classrooms) ht

This young adult is a Little Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Kansas City. Recently his family has had financial struggles since his mother is a single parent who works at a factory in Kansas City and is unable to support her child with driver's education despite working over 40 hours per week. The hope is to help this young person obtain a driver's license so that he can get to school and work with more ease. Currently his mother has to drive him everywhere. He is completely dependent on his mom's schedule and often has to walk to get to his job that's over an hour away (walking).

The Jackson County Children's Division is looking for support for a mom and her six children. The children have been on a trial home visit, which is the step before the custody being returned to the mom and the case closed for the past two months. Mom currently works two jobs to support the children and get adjusted to all of the bills that come along with having four teenagers come back into the home. Unfortunately, mom is struggling to pay the electric bill after the high temperatures this summer, her air conditioning breaking, and a pipe breaking in her basement which made her other utility bills spike and is currently at risk for the electricity being shut off. Mom is working hard to get set up on the repayment plan so this does not happen which is $500 and she has been able to obtain $250 of that within the past week. The shut off date for her electricity is anytime between September 26th-October 26th, according to the notice I have seen. Any help for this family would be greatly appreciated as we do not want there to be any further barriers for reunification for this family that is working so hard. Thank you for all you do for the families of Jackson County, Missouri and beyond.
