Single mom of 3 children is in need of getting birth certificates for her children so they can enroll in a new school. This family has been homeless, and by staying at many different homes, she has lost a lot of important information. We have been helping her get her ID, SSN, and now birth certificates for her and her children. This transition for the kids has been tough and she believes them switching schools to where they are now will help them become more stable. This process is all part of her getting a job, housing, etc. We are wrapping around this mom to support her in this process!
A mother and her 2-month-old child will be evicted from their apartment this Wednesday, January 25th. The mother went to court two weeks ago to see if they could get an extension. The leasing agent told them they could do an extension, but the eviction would be on their record, or they would have to leave by this Wednesday, and they wouldn't put it on their record. Mom chose to leave by the 25th. When mom chose this option, she believed she had some prospects on a place to move into. Now none of those prospects are available. Mom has been contacting the shelters to see if they can stay there but as of now nothing is available. Requesting a hotel room for a week until she can figure something out.

Shanen:
Does she have a place to store her belongings during the in between time? Our church could help with marriage if she needs and I already have a bunch of boxes.

I'm currently working with a family that the father just recently lost his job of 11 years and the mother does not work at this time, the child is diabetic and needs to be seen at Children's Mercy and the family does not have the funds for gas to make it to the child's appointments to make sure they are meeting his health needs and getting his insulin for his pump and to be shown how to work the child's pump correctly.
The family is also in need of some cups and silverware for their family to eat off of and drink out of as they do not have that right now.

This child is a 10th grade student at webster and currently at Buchanan County Academy (BCA). She is getting ready to go on home passes and will be finishing up her program with BCA in the next 6-8 weeks. The juvenile officer indicated that she has to have a bed at home before she can start her home passes. Father shared he does not have the money to purchase her a new bed as they had a bed bug incident with her inviting friends over and friends bringing it in the child's bedroom. Father reported while she has been in BCA he has made sure to get rid of any and all furniture in the home that had bugs and used his money to clean the home. Father is a single parent and struggles to pay bills and is often late on utilities because he rotates the bills he pays each month so they don't get shut off. He reported he does not have the money to purchase her a new bed and really needs help so she is able to come home from BCA.

Two local children are in custody whose mother resides out of state. The mother is on a fixed income, so we are requesting a $50 gas card to assist with transportation to visits. The mother is engaged in the case and attends court.

Who: Foster mom, kinship to the child, and the child, 13 years old.
Why: This kinship placement is working beautifully to keep the child safe, drug free and attending school. The child reports feeling cared for, safe and wanted in this placement.
The physical home of the family does not qualify for licensing. The three month of non-licensed kinship placement expired in December. The family is looking for a bigger home that will pass licensing, but cannot move until the lease expires in April. January - April will not provide the monthly maintenance payment for the care of the child. The family is NOT asking the child be removed, the Foster Mom is diligent in keeping the kiddo safe and wants her to remain in her home ,headed towards Guardianship. Money is tight and the stress of it is causing concern for the ability to have fuel to attend appointments, get back and forth to school and purchase healthy food. (Child is recovering from severe medical needs caused by drug use and on a high calorie diet including high protein items.)
This Foster Mom is proud and is uncomfortable accepting handouts. I do not want to embarrass her but do want to assure our kiddos has the nutrients she needs to successful heal as prescribed by her doctors while relieving some of the stress on the family each month until they can be licensed.
What: Request on behalf of the family; four $100 gift cards to Aldi, one for each month; January, February, March and April 2023

A young name is in need of a new futon. He has been offered a bed, but he prefers a futon for when he has friends over. The one that he currently has is broken. He is wanting one that is more comfortable like a bed as well. Getting this futon will allow for him to not only get a good night's rest, but it will also allow for him to socialize with his friends.

Single mom of four is working hard to provide for her family. Last week she took temporary custody of her deceased sibling’s teenage children. She is without transportation and has to Uber to work. A church partner has a minivan for sale that would greatly benefit this hard working mom! The cost of the van is $1500 but a donation of $2000 would cover taxes, titling, and initial insurance cost.
Single mom with one child. Mom recently was able to obtain a job but her car is having issues which could cause issues with her getting to work. She is also in need of a vacuum to help maintain clean floors.
Mom has a someone who can do the car repairs for $200.00 unless someone is willing to help out with their services instead of financially.
A family of 5 is currently in desperate need of financial assistance with an overdue electric bill ($3,700) and an $800 phone bill as soon as possible. They were staying with the wife's mother, but were recently told that only the children could stay. This forced the husband and wife to go back to an unlighted home, and they are currently living by candlelight (have been since Thursday 9/29). Both husband and wife are unemployed. The husband is interviewing this Wednesday, but the wife is currently awaiting medical clearance to start back at Amazon after an osteoarthritis flair up.
***Update*** Utilities for this family have been disconnected. Some payments have been made however, a $2,000 balance remains to reconnect service. A mother with two kids is in need of assistance with utilities asap. The family was abandoned by the husband/father and is now at risk for service disconnection. The mother works hard but has been struggling to stay on top of things since being abandoned by her husband. She's been trying to borrow money from family and friends but time is running out. She is afraid that losing electricity will put the family at risk and that her children could possibly be taken from her. Any Assistance for this family would be greatly appreciated. Mom received a shut-off notice on 5/23/22 for $3,265.24
A family with 3 children is in need of assistance to pay for the father's surgery, so that they don't fall behind on rent. The father is the only source of income for the family, so recovering from surgery will also impact the family's income and ability to pay bills.
We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent.
We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.
As a previous worker at Children's Division I know first hand the stress and hard work these workers go through. I would love to spread some love to the local Children's Division office downtown KC by supplying them with an Ice Maker. This seem like a small thing but they have been needing an ice maker since I was there 2 1/2 years ago and even before then. They have an older fridge that they have some ice trays in the freezer but that is not enough for everyone to add some ice to their beverages. An Ice maker would be a huge blessing to these workers as they can grab ice and water on their way to their next visit. They could grab ice for the soda donated to them from churches.
I have done some research on ice makers and have found a few that could work for their break room space. I am asking $500 for the ice maker and an additional $500 to help cheer up their break room adding new chairs, tables and items to make it feel more inviting and comfortable.
These items could go a long way for these workers and just in time for the hot days coming up! Thank you!
A single mom with an 8 year-old boy and 9 year-old girl coming out of homelessness after losing disability benefits and are in major need of funding for utility bills. Dad is an addict and not in the picture and uncle on dad's side is helping them get stable. They are staying in an empty house owned by a relative of the uncle and he is paying their rent for now but they are living with no furniture, water or electricity. There are past due balances and activation fees on the electric and water that need to be paid in order for them to be turned on, totaling almost $1500, but any amount helps! We are hoping the CarePortal community can contribute some funds to help get the utilities turned on for this family.
A single mother with two sons, 10 yrs and 7 yrs is in need of assistance with rent. This mother of two loss employment brought on by the pandemic and struggles with getting a job. This has caused her to fall behind in her rent and is urgently in need of assistance to avoid eviction.
Single mother of 1yr old daughter. Needs assistance with car note of $220. The need is urgent to prevent repossession. Transportation of child to daycare and for work is critical.
We are working with a single mom with 3 children and has been homeless for about 5 months. She recently found employment and is doing her best to get back on her feet. Unfortunately her car has recently broken down and is at risk of losing her job. We helped her get her car in for an assessment and unfortunately the repair costs exceed the value of the vehicle. We are looking for a vehicle donation, or to raise the funds to cover the cost of an older Explorer model along with any additional costs for repair of the replacement vehicle. Reliable transportation is so critical to helping families regain and sustain stability; we would really love to be able to bring some good news to this mother. Thank you so much for considering this need!
