An informal family plan is in place; maternal grandmother is caring for 2 school-aged grandchildren. Her home was recently found infested with bed bugs. She took immediate action, however found that she had to get rid of many of her living room furniture and bedroom furniture along with other belongings. She made plans to replace her living room furniture and other items. Her and her husband are very overwhelmed and could use assistance with a twin bed for each of their grandchildren. The children are currently sharing and sleeping on an air mattress in the living room as she thoroughly does a deep cleaning of her entire home. This would help the family out tremendously. The children's parents visit the home, is informed of the infestation, and also taking precaution.

I am working with a young mother of one 6-year old child. Mom's grandmother was her support person, financially and emotionally. She recently passed away. Mom has been able to find a new apartment, but is working on getting all of the items needed for the home. Mom is most worried about getting her daughter a bed that is clean and comfortable to sleep on, as she has her own room for the first time in her life. The 6-year old is very excited by her new room and is hoping to have a Lilo and Stitch theme.

Help Remove an Educational Barrier for a Child

The child in need is 11 years old and in sixth grade and has a history of poor attendance at school. The child is below level academic performance, has debilitating social anxiety and is autistic, in addition to having multiple other mental health and physical health diagnoses, having had well documented struggles since the first grade. This last year, the school initiated academic testing to assist the child with the unique academic needs, while the child continued to struggle to attend school. Given the child's continued difficulty with sleep disturbances and social phobias, the school threatened to report the parents to law enforcement. The parents are both dealing with financial hardships due to dad being laid off a week after our case opening and the mom being on doctor ordered medical leave due to sleep difficulties and what she believed to be narcolepsy. The family feels at this time that their best option is to home school and have submitted the necessary documentation to the school for intent and the Individualized Homeschooling Instruction Plan to the district. The current concern is the family is planning to utilize the Time for Learning Online Program but do not have access to a laptop and unfortunately the home does have cockroaches and they are fearful to attempt to borrow or rent a laptop from a Rent-A-Center because the roaches will likely get into the equipment. Mom recently went back to work a week ago and is trying to get bills caught up from being out of work since March.
