I have a student at my school whose family is being evicted from their apartment in 10 days. The 6th grader attends my school and is such a hard worker and a very sweet kiddo. There are two additional students in the family younger two are in elementary and early education in our district, ages 4 and 10. The mother is a single parent supporting the three children on her own. She is trained and worked as a nurse, but due to an injury has been unable to work for several months recently and they have fallen behind on rent. They owe two months rent and fees associated with the eviction process in the amount of $3387. The mother expressed they have no family in the area they can stay with and she is extremely worried about becoming homeless in the winter. She is working willingly with the school social worker to access community resources, but so far has been unsuccessful in finding emergency funding. Any contribution towards the total will hopefully help mom be able to negotiate with her apartment management and give her time to pursue other ways to help cover the cost.
The oldest is in 6th grade and she is a good student and a basketball player. The family has been through a lot this past few months. The mom shared that she is very scared of being evicted in winter and not having a place to go when it is cold outside.

DCCCA Family Preservation is asking for help from the community to replenish our supply of hygiene products in our donation pantry. These products will benefit low-income families in crisis due to the following real-life scenarios: domestic violence has caused a family to flee their home with only the clothes on their backs; a family is experiencing homelessness and does not know where their next meal is going to come from, much less how they are going to afford a bottle of shampoo or body wash; a parent has made the decision to go into substance abuse treatment to avoid losing their child/ren but cannot afford the essentials to take with them to the treatment facility; the child/ren are at risk of being placed in foster care due to showing up for school with poor or bad hygiene due to their single parent not having the means to buy hygiene products. We are grateful for any help from the community to support the basic needs of the families we serve. For your convenience, there three options to help meet part of this need: You may purchase items directly from our Walmart wish list: . You may purchase a Walmart gift card in-store or online and either mail or deliver to our address below. A mother is very close to reunifying with her children; she just needs one more bed! She would like a daybed or a bed that works as both a couch and a bed since she will be sleeping in the living room to make space for her children.
She would also like a Ring doorbell as a safety precaution to ensure the perpetrator of the children's abuse does not come to the home and to help the children feel more safe.

I have a mom on my caseload who is currently expecting. She is due 01/18. She is currently living in a women’s shelter and has recently informed me she does not have any baby clothes or diapers and wipes. Anything purchased or donated will be helpful.
A child in our care currently resides with his grandmother. The grandmother’s home is becoming unsafe to live and she needs to move as soon as possible. She found a place that accepts her section 8 voucher but she needs the deposit to help her secure it. Her deposit is $500 but I am only asking for $200 or however much you are able to give. This child loves being with his grandmother. Children’s Division doesn’t not want to separate the two because of the unsafe living environment. I am very appreciative of whatever is donated.

This request is to help a single teen mom to raise the remaining balance to get her own vehicle. She has saved the majority of the money but is needing some help with the remaining cost. This new to her car would be incredibly helpful for her independence.
She will be using the money to purchase her vehicle. This vehicle would be used to transport the youth and her daughter to and from appointments, daycare, work, and give them the freedom to go from place to place without needing to depend on others or the public transportation system.

A single mother in the KCK area needs assistance with home maintenance. The family's front door is too small for their door frame, so the front door cannot be shut or locked. The wind blows the door open and snow gets into the living room. A child also sleeps in the living room, and the family is worried about an intruder entering the home through this front door at night. The family is also asking for assistance with fixing or replacing a few overhead light fixtures in the home.

My team is assisting a family who has 3 young children in the home who is needing some assistance with utilities. Mom is currently on leave due to welcoming a new child on Christmas. Due to her limited income her utilities water, lights and gas have fallen behind and have received shut off notices.

Single mom of four is working hard to provide for her family. Last week she took temporary custody of her deceased sibling’s teenage children. She is without transportation and has to Uber to work. A church partner has a minivan for sale that would greatly benefit this hard working mom! The cost of the van is $1500 but a donation of $2000 would cover taxes, titling, and initial insurance cost.
Father of 3 needing assistance with paying for gas and groceries. The family has just recently gotten into an apartment after living between a car and a hotel for months. After utilities and rent were paid no money remains for gas to get the kids to summer school, to pick up groceries, and get Dad to work.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated
***Update*** Utilities for this family have been disconnected. Some payments have been made however, a $2,000 balance remains to reconnect service. A mother with two kids is in need of assistance with utilities asap. The family was abandoned by the husband/father and is now at risk for service disconnection. The mother works hard but has been struggling to stay on top of things since being abandoned by her husband. She's been trying to borrow money from family and friends but time is running out. She is afraid that losing electricity will put the family at risk and that her children could possibly be taken from her. Any Assistance for this family would be greatly appreciated. Mom received a shut-off notice on 5/23/22 for $3,265.24
A family with 3 children is in need of assistance to pay for the father's surgery, so that they don't fall behind on rent. The father is the only source of income for the family, so recovering from surgery will also impact the family's income and ability to pay bills.
We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent.
We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.
As a previous worker at Children's Division I know first hand the stress and hard work these workers go through. I would love to spread some love to the local Children's Division office downtown KC by supplying them with an Ice Maker. This seem like a small thing but they have been needing an ice maker since I was there 2 1/2 years ago and even before then. They have an older fridge that they have some ice trays in the freezer but that is not enough for everyone to add some ice to their beverages. An Ice maker would be a huge blessing to these workers as they can grab ice and water on their way to their next visit. They could grab ice for the soda donated to them from churches.
I have done some research on ice makers and have found a few that could work for their break room space. I am asking $500 for the ice maker and an additional $500 to help cheer up their break room adding new chairs, tables and items to make it feel more inviting and comfortable.
These items could go a long way for these workers and just in time for the hot days coming up! Thank you!
A single mom with an 8 year-old boy and 9 year-old girl coming out of homelessness after losing disability benefits and are in major need of funding for utility bills. Dad is an addict and not in the picture and uncle on dad's side is helping them get stable. They are staying in an empty house owned by a relative of the uncle and he is paying their rent for now but they are living with no furniture, water or electricity. There are past due balances and activation fees on the electric and water that need to be paid in order for them to be turned on, totaling almost $1500, but any amount helps! We are hoping the CarePortal community can contribute some funds to help get the utilities turned on for this family.
