I work with clients who are currently navigating open investigations that have not yet entered the system. One of my clients is a pregnant woman who is focused on ensuring a healthy start for her unborn child and preventing her unborn child from entering the system. She has recently found a small apartment. However, she is starting from scratch, facing the challenge of furnishing this new space with no belongings of her own. Providing her with assistance to acquire essential furniture and household items would not only help create a comfortable and safe place for her child but also empower her to build a stable environment where her family can thrive and grow together. A single mother of four children is in need of bedding for her children. Client was able to get stable housing for her and her children two months ago and beds but not bedding for them. Client is in need of a twin bedding set and a full-size bedding set. Client is also in need of a shelving organizer and bathroom shelf organizer. Client wants to provide a safe and less cluttered space for her children. Due to client’s limited income, she is not able to provide necessary items for her children. Client currently is not able to work due to her mental health. Client is eager to work on her mental health to be able to return to work. Client is currently working with Case Manager on her resume and preparing for a better future for her and her children. Client states she is fortunate if anyone can help. We have a young, single mother of 3 children (ages 1, 4 and 5). She is experiencing unstable housing and financial stress. The mother is a victim of domestic violence and is trying to keep her children sheltered and safe from harm. The mother has been residing with the maternal grandmother in a single unit apartment with the children. The MGM put the mother and children out on yesterday and stole the mother’s food stamps from her EBT card. The mother is not able to purchase any food for herself and the children. She was able to get a room in Hollywood through PATH and is awaiting placement in a DV shelter. DCFS and the agencies involved with this family are working tirelessly to find a residence the mother and children. The mother can be reached on her cell phone and the CSW is able to correspond with the mother accordingly. We are hoping that a donor will pick up this request and provide the family with a $300.00 grocery gift card or purchase food for the family so that the mother and children do not go hungry.

We have a mother who has a six-month old baby that is teething. The mother is very resilient and is thriving with all of her programs she is involved in. She is a domestic violence survivor and is using her experience to build and grow within her life. She is in therapy to address the concerns that brought her family to the attention of the Department. She is a domestic violence survivor. She is a good mother who truly cares for her daughter. During our meetings the baby is always smiling and giggling. Recently, the baby began teething and is in need of hypoallergenic-silicon weaning cups, baby spoons, feeding set, and food making system (NutriBullet). I am in hopes that some of these items can possibly make it to her.

This request is on behalf of a determined and resilient 35-year-old single mother with four children, ages 12, 9, 5, and a 4-month-old infant. Demonstrating remarkable courage and initiative, she recently secured employment in Las Vegas and is taking a bold step toward a brighter future for her family by relocating to begin this new chapter. Until now, the family has been living with the client’s parents in a shared household. With the support of loved ones and her own drive to improve her circumstances, she has secured a two-bedroom apartment in Las Vegas and will be moving before the end of May. However, because they’ve been staying with relatives, the family currently does not own any beds or bedding essentials. To help them make a successful transition and ensure the children have a comfortable and safe place to sleep, we are requesting support for: One bunk bed, One full-size bed, Bedding items including sheets, comforters, and pillows. This support will help alleviate some of the initial financial burden of relocating and allow the mother to focus on settling in and building stability for her children. Your assistance will provide not just furniture, but a foundation of comfort, dignity, and hope during this critical time. I am working with a family of six—a mother and her five young children—who are in need of support. Family has experienced homelessness and has been able to overcome many challenges. As the children have grown, the limited space in their home has made it difficult to provide each child with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. To help meet her family’s needs, the mother is seeking assistance with obtaining a bunk bed.

This furniture would significantly improve the children’s living conditions by creating more space and ensuring a safer sleep environment. Due to ongoing financial hardship, the mother is unable to afford this on her own. Providing this support would strengthen her ability to care for her children and offer her greater peace of mind as she continues to meet their daily needs. This is a father with current child welfare involvement. Father has one child that is currently released in his care. The department has informed the father that he needs two dressers in order to prevent a cluttered home environment. If father is blessed with the two dressers, it will prevent the department from having concerns in the future and allow the father to move forward with the closing of his case. Current non-minor dependent recently moved into an apartment with his dog. He isn't able to work right now due to an injury so he is tight on cash. He needs a couch and refrigerator. He would be much more comfortable with those items and could focus on healing properly.

The family has a history of homelessness. The family just recently moved into a new apartment. Mother and the children have no furniture nor beds. The family is currently sleeping on the floor on top of blankets. Which it is very uncomfortable for the children to get a good night's rest and be prepared for school. The family does not have any couches or a dining room table. The mother will be greatly appreciative with assistance with beds or furniture for her new home, which will provide a safe and stable living home for the children. A Walmart gift card could assist with some bunkbeds or pull-out couch for the children to sleep on.

We are seeking urgent community support for a mother and her 7-year-old daughter who are currently in need of safe and stable housing. The mother is a victim of domestic violence and is without any local family support. She is currently awaiting a court hearing scheduled for May 9th, which will determine whether she is permitted to relocate to Georgia to be with extended family.

At this time, the mother has exhausted her financial resources and is unable to secure housing on her own. We are asking for assistance to help cover the cost of a 14-day hotel stay, totaling approximately $141 per night, to ensure she and her daughter have a safe place to stay during this transitional period.

Total estimated need: $1,974 (14 nights at $141/night)

Caregiver needs a black, six or eight wooden/sturdy dresser for her half sibling. The youth’s current dresser is broken. The caregiver is married and has two small children, and was willing to open her home for her younger half sibling due to family circumstances related to a history of domestic violence and substance abuse. The caregiver has sacrificed to care for her younger half sibling and does all she can to ensure her younger sibling is cared for and protected. The caregiver and youth are meeting the case plan goals/court orders. Furthermore, caregiver is committed to legal guardianship through KinGap. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because I want to support the family and also assist with providing a safe environment for the youth. DCFS is requesting a black six to eight drawer wooden dresser, otherwise the youth will continue to have a broken dresser that could possible fall apart as the youth continues to use. This need is being requested through Care Portal because unfortunately, DCFS’ timeframe in providing this item would take too long, as the youth needs a functioning and safe dresser. The estimated cost of the dresser being requested is $200.00.

Caregiver/mother needs car seat, toddler bed, mattress, bedding and a high chair. The family’s case is newly opened. Children detained from father and mother and children residing with MGM. Mother moved in with MGM and is in need of the requested items. Mother has faced some financially hardships and had been working prior to separating from father. Mother is receiving CalWorks and financial aid as she is a college student but is not suffice for mother to purchase a toddler bed, high chair and car seat for the children. Despite the mother’s financial hardships, she is working toward the case plan and goals. Mother’s main goal is to maintain the children in her care, continue to have a bond with them and not put the children at risk of abuse. For this reason, I am advocating for mother to have the need identified. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is to provide a safe, enjoyable and comfortable environment for the children. DCFS has assisted the family by providing diapers and appropriate activities. This need is critical to ensuring child safety, the children to be in a safe car seat and to have their own sleeping area. This need is being requested through Care Portal because unfortunately DCFS does not have these items to provide to the family. The estimated cost of the need/s being requested is approximately $600.00.
