Often times the nurse/clinic in each school is one of the first stops for when a student presents with lice. They often provide educational information to staff and families to resolve lice issues or when necessary will refer to school social worker to follow up with families. It is very helpful for nurses to have at least a few lice kits available to use when needed for these children especially when there are situations that arise where a family do not have the funds for a kit. Our elementary schools usually encounter lice situations the most. These kits are not presently funded by the school system. Due to this I am requesting kits to be donated to the schools. The school year is wrapping up, but this will be helpful to have on hand in preparation for the new school year to begin.

The family includes 4 children and the mother has requested some assistance with the basic needs for 3 of the children. Mom is currently staying home to care for the youngest child who has medical concerns and for the 3 older children when they return home from school, while her husband works during the day. The youngest child is a few months old, was born prematurely and uses a particular type of formula(Enfamil Enfacare, blue container). The child has begun to eat more and is developing well, but mom is asking for help in purchasing more formula, due to the child eating about a can of formula a day. The family would also like to start the child on soft foods(Stage 1 cereal). 2 other children in the home are in need of new socks(size 2, preferably white) and new boxers(size 10-12). Both of these children are boys. (no preferences on brand, color or style). This family has been working hard to provide the best care they can for the children and are asking for some assistance in purchasing the below listed items, to ensure they can continue to give their children the most basic needs. -Enfamil Enfacare(blue container) -Stage 1 cereal(no known allergies, no preference on brand) -Size 2 socks(boy) -size 10-12 boxers(boy)

The family was provided with a list of food banks. The family would benefit from having a Food Lion gift card for food items (Food Lion is the closest grocery store to the motel). They share a queen bed as that is what is provided in each room. The family would like to have a twin bed (frame and mattress) for the child to have their own bed that she can use now and when they secure permanent housing. (separate requests for each)

A family needs help paying back rent for the month. The money has to be paid by the end of the month or they will be evicted. Eviction process has already started. The family is to be out of the home May 31st. The family does not have any viable options for places to stay. Payment will freeze the process and give the family time to look for alternate housing options. Verified information with landlord.

Family with 3 school age children needs a washer. Current washer is broken and they have been going to the laundry mat. Money is tight and mother just had surgery so she has been unable to go wash their clothes recently.

Hello, looking for assistance with family that needs a new pack n play/crib for a 2-year-old toddler, and a bunk bed and twin mattresses for a 15-yr old and 7-yr-old. Not urgent needs for the family the older children sleep in the same bed currently, and the toddler has a broken crib, but this would help assist a family who has financial and transportation issues (they have no car).

We are reaching out to request urgent funding assistance for temporary housing for a teenager who has been struggling with his transition out of foster care. This young adult is currently in need of a safe and stable place to stay while they work toward securing employment and saving for an apartment deposit, first month’s rent, and utility costs.

We are seeking support to cover the cost of a short-term hotel stay to ensure this youth is not placed in a vulnerable or unsafe living situation during this critical transition. Your assistance would provide a vital bridge toward long-term stability and independence.

The father who had primary custody of his two children had to be placed in hospital due to an incident in which he may not recover. The current placements for the children need assistance with clothing as they did not have much and gas cards to get them to appointments for their mental and sibling visits. If these needs are met it will help the children with clothing for the summer season and address their mental health with the situation of the loss of their primary custodian and the siblings having to be separated from each other.

The department is currently working with a family who is struggling to pay the power bill in the Hillsville area. The mother has had several family members who have abused her and caused her to put power in her name at different locations. The family members then do not pay the power bill causing her power bill to be very high. The family is in need of paying $388 by June 5, 2025 to prevent the power from being disconnected.

Family is in need of a gate for their porch and/or a small fence installed for their very small yard located in a trailer park. The family has six children and one who is special needs and very active and wanting to explore. The fence and/or gate will assist the parents in providing for the children's safety while playing.

A single mom needs two car seats. She is trying to get her children back from the children's grandmother. The single moms car seats were thrown away by the children's grandmother because she said they were not clean. This single mom is trying to get car seats so that when the children can come home, hopefully next week, she will have a safe way to transport them. She has made mistakes and has owned up to them and has been working hard to do all the things she needs to get the children back. This single mom is working on finishing her GED, looking for a job, and better place to live to start over to make her children's lives better.
