I have a high school student who is in need of a graphing calculator. The family can not afford to purchase one and we have looked at several pawn Shops and other platforms to find one for the child. This would help the child with her math and homework which in turn gets her better grades and hope for a college scholarship. It does not have to be new if someone had a used one that works, that would be great. Thank you!!

Hello, I have a family who is moving into a residence after having not been able to live together for the last 4 months. The mother is able to provide a home for her children. DCCCA is asking for pillows for this family as they do not have any. In providing this need, you will be helping the mother not spend extra money so she can apply the money to her deposit and first month's rent. Thank you in advance for helping this family and this mother provide for her children.

This family of 6, are very hard working but they don't have some basic necessities, such as beds. At this time they are sleeping on the floor and still managing to work and go to school every day, having beds would really make a difference their daily lives, especially for the children to have beds to sleep in.

I have a houseless family in need of financial assistance for maintenance on their car. One parent is working full time and relies on this vehicle to get to and from work, the store, and kids appointments. Since the family is houseless, they are paying an outstanding amount each month to afford their hotel. They do not have any extra funds to take care of their car repairs. The family needs an oil change and brakes for their car.

DCCCA is working with a homeless family who have been living in a hotel. The mother has recently started working, DCCCA has helped the family obtain childcare, transportation for school, and is working to help with housing. The mom's mother's health is declining and is not expected to live much long so the mom has not been able to work this week or last between the holiday and being with her mother. Because of this the family is $350 short to pay the December hotel rent on Saturday (12/3). If you can help cover all or a portion of this need for the family it will allow them to continue to have a stable place to live while DCCCA continues to work with the family to secure more permanent housing and allow the mom to spend this week with her mother and not worry about working or losing their place to stay.

The young brother of a 13yr old had to take his sister into his home there was no other option at this time. The brother very young himself gave his sister his bed , the young man has so little and works hard every day and he stepped up to help his sister when she needed him. Please assist with getting the 13yr old a bed. This would help the transition so much if both could have a bed to sleep on.

We are requesting an Uber gift card to help mom with transportation to the hospital to visit her baby in the NICU. The baby was born early and admitted in the NICU for over a month. Mom's car broke down and the costs are not affordable for the family to fix. The roundtrip cost for mom to get to and from the hospital is $22/ day. The team has looked into the bus route and determined it is not a feasible option. The team is working with the hospital social worker for transportation options in the future. The amount requested ($88) will assist mom with transportation for 4 days this week to get to the hospital to visit with her baby. We do ask if the donor can donate an uber gift card in the amount of $88 since mom doesnt have transportation to get to the bank for other payment methods.

This 14 year old boy has been in care for over two years. He moved bounced around a little, before finding stable placement with his siblings in March of 2021. He has an 8th grade field trip to Washinton, DC coming up in April (with payment due in December). This youth is a great kid. Once he got into a stable and loving home, and was able to find the right dosage of medication, he has thrived. He does well in school, loves playing sports, and he has a very humble and kind personality. He would really like to go on this trip, and his foster family would really like for him to be able to join his classmates. They need some help to make this happen. The cost of the trip is $1,609, and that is a lot for the family to take on, especially since they have five other children in the home.

A caregiver needs help keeping her phone line turned on to remain in touch with her children while at work. Recently, one of her children has been struggling with some behaviors that require extra supervision. She had to call off work several times to remain with her child and has fallen behind on bills. Now she is able to return to work, but she needs to prioritize her phone so her child or the adult who is supervising can always reach her. Helping meet this request will help a caregiver be able to support her child and keep the family safe.

We have an Uncle that took in his niece and nephew to prevent the children going into foster care. He has had the children for a few weeks and we determined this may be a long term situation (over 6 months). The children need bed frames and mattresses. The two year old girl is sleeping in a pack and play. The seven year old boy is sleeping on a cot. If anyone can donate a toddler bed frame, a twin/ full size bed for the 7 year old, and mattresses, the relative would really appreciate the assistance. The family is also open to bunk beds if that is available. Please reach out if you can assist with used beds or new beds. Thank you!

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community! I have a young fun loving male who is currently autistic, nonverbal and housed at a medical facility in the greater Kansas City Missouri area and he has been there for some time due to his mother also being chronically ill and she can not meet any of his medical, mental, or physical needs. She had to give care of him over to Children's Division to provide proper care and custody of him as she realized she is physically unable. This young man is currently in need of clothing such as sweat clothes than he can wear in the facility in which he is housed. He is in desperate need of sweat pants and sweat shirts in the size of Large. Underclothing is also a necessity in this request. The items requested will help get this young man through the winter as the weather is changing and wearing basketball shorts and t-shirts is becoming a not so viable option. We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent. We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.
