The mother stated that the family has had bedbugs for a week, that she knows of, and has killed one crawling on a pillow and found one on one of her children. The mother stated that she has been spraying bedbug spray on the couch, but is worried as she knows they can live within walls and cracks.

Single mother has had two children removed from her care previously due to mistakes in her past but has a newborn and a chance to right her wrongs. There are no concerns with the safety of the newborn in her care currently and mother has everything she needs for the child. Mom moved into a new apartment which has a bed for her but nothing else. She is requesting help getting the basic furniture with a couch, tv stand, dining room table, and at least two dressers. We are also requesting a gift card for food and gas to help her through until she can get her girl into daycare at 6weeks and go back to work. This is the first time she has had her feet underneath her and is excited to be moving forward. Please help ensure she can do so comfortably with her littlest blessing!

Family of three adults and nine children (ranging from infant through teens) heats with kerosene because their rental home's heating system is broken and the landlord refuses to fix it. They have looked but have not been able to find other housing in the past year. The family is now down to two days' worth of kerosene, and can buy only two cans at a time at $30 per can. Each can lasts one day between the two kerosene heaters. They have utilized local agencies for other aid, and have been referred again to Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living to check on weatherization services. Previous calls to CVACL were not returned, but they could benefit from insulation that would preserve their inside heat. They reside in a 5-bedroom double-wide trailer.

This is a single mother taking care of three children. She recently gave birth a few months ago to a boy. The mother works two jobs in hospitality, and she did not receive maternity care due to the industry. The mother stopped receiving child support from the two older children's father, and the other father is not present as such. The mother's son has early kidney disease and has been receiving care in MD as he was born out of state, and therefore she attends services there for the baby. The baby is having surgery this Friday, and the mother has been struggling with being able to work when her child is considered high medical needs. This mother's service providers put in a SSI application, however that won't take place till January of next year. This mother applied for fueling assistance but won't be accepted till the end of December. Her utility bill is 484.31 and she faces disconnection on 11/28/23. I requested that she contact all financial agencies in the area today, but it will take time for her to hear back from these providers. She needs help, she needs support, she needs a prayer and thoughts that everything will be okay with her son. Please consider helping this mother :)

Single parent is the only one earning income for the household of 3. The mother is currently on medical leave and received a disconnect utility bill for $1036.78. The mother stated that she did not receive any utility bill except for the disconnect notice. The mother has contacted AEP; however, they cannot assist with any funding assistance. She also attempted to contact RAM house and Salvation Army and is pending a response. Disconnection is set for this week. The mother contacted 211 Virginia for general resources but reported that she did not have much luck. Would anyone in the community be able to assist?

This is for an employee that works for Bedford County Public Schools who has been working in special education for several years. She is a single mother of two, a teenager (Female, Age: 15) and a younger child with autism (Male, Age: 7). The mother was born and raised in this community. The family has been struggling financially and especially this year as they are going through some difficult personal matters. In speaking with the mother the the most pressing needs mentioned include two new tires for her vehicle (she has a larger SUV - specific tires = Trail Terrain P285/70R17 ), gas cards ($60/gas tank for their vehicle), and a grocery card for some essential items. The mother indicated for her child with autism, she regularly has to take him to appointments out of town. The mother/family are very appreciative of any support they receive.

This is a youth who loves to attend school, but due to his diagnoses (ADHD and Intellectual Disability) and weaknesses with executive functioning, struggles significantly with getting up for school, and getting ready and out the door to catch the bus in time. When he does miss the bus, takes initiative to call the school to see if a ride can be arranged, or he calls an Uber using his grandmother's card. His grandmother does not have a vehicle, and is on a fixed income, so cannot afford ongoing charges for an Uber. The family is at risk of court action if absences continue, and there is also a fear that if he misses too much school, he may eventually become discouraged and stop attending, as he is nearing 18. I would love to remove this simple barrier for the family by obtaining an Uber gift card, with the goal of needing to use it infrequently. Alternately, if there was an individual in the community who would be willing to partner with the family to assist with transportation as needed, that could be another great option!

I have a child who is on a trial home placement. He has been struggling significantly in his behaviors, which has necessitated the parents missing a significant amount of time from work to come and pick him up, be in the ER with him, etc. The mother needs help paying her rent for this month, which totals $700, in part because she has been trying to obtain a car after her previous vehicle broke down. Additionally, the mother is incredibly stressed and struggling to find relaxation and self care strategies that help her maintain her sobriety. She reports she used to enjoy art, and noted she has paints, but no canvases. Any help that could be provided to defray some of the rent cost, or to provide her some supplies that would let her do art as a calming strategy would be much appreciated!
