Grandmother reached out to the campus recently with concerns for her granddaughter wellbeing. Grandmother has taken over guardianship, but this has caused a major strain to the finances. Grandmother states she is behind on rent and currently has no food, with light and water bill pending. Grandmother is very concerned student will stop attending school as she is also trying to work with her regarding the abrupt departure of her biological mother, she feels bad to have to ask, but does not see any other options to keep a roof over their heads and some hot food on the table, Grandmother is also asking for prayer as this has been a very difficult month and its holiday time, thank you for your support.
It is a family of 7 with 5 children (11 years old girl, 10 years old boy, 9 years old girl, and 7-year-old twins, a boy and a girl). All of the children are in needs of beds. The family recently moved apartments and had to throw away all of the furniture away due to a roach infestation. The family did not want to move the insects from one home to the other and they thought the best course of action would be to throw everything away and start over. Anything would be helpful to the family and help ease the burden.
This family consists of a great grandmother who is on oxygen and mostly bed bound, and two grandmothers who are raising 4 children, ages 7-13 one with special needs who has limited verbal skills. The family lost the Great Grandfather in 2018 and has been struggling with grief, and cleaning out of his room which became infested with bed bugs and is now impacting the health and well being of the children and the family. The services requested will be able to chemically treat the home, heat treat the home and existing mattresses and provide mattress covers plus provide a year of warranty to make sure the pests are completely gone. We obtained 3 quotes for extermination services and the agency providing the services was the most affordable with the best coverage. The grandmother recently obtained a new job and is working hard to provide what she can for the family.
An aunt and uncle took in their triplet nieces and nephew to their home upon their release from the hospital after their birth. The babies are now 7 months old and are in the process of transitioning to their cribs. The caregivers are requesting assistance with crib mattresses and crib sheets for the babies. The family has had a lot of expenses in caring for the babies and are requesting help with the cost of crib mattresses and sheets. The donation of crib mattresses will allow the caregivers to continue to meet the other needs of the babies. The caregivers are in the process of getting licensed with their hopes of adopting the babies.
This 6-person family does the best they can on under $50,000 annual income. They are working on moving out of their current apartment which is in bad condition. During a storm, there was a bad leak which caused water damage in one of the bedrooms which destroyed the beds in the room. They had to throw the beds out and are currently sharing 2 mattresses for all members of the family. They do not want to replace the beds until they move but would like help with some air mattresses to improve the quality of life for their children until they move and can save money for beds.
This family has been working very hard to move into a nicer area for their children to have a safer environment and better quality of life, but they had very little time to move once they were approved for a new apartment and they ran out of time and had to leave some beds behind. Currently they have one mattress/box spring for the two boys to share, while mom and the two girls are sleeping on the floor. They planned to buy beds but then would have no money for Christmas. This is a very close, loving family, and their parents work a very strict schedule that allows them very little flexibility. They always make time for their family and provide what the children need even though they are strapped for time and money. I would love to provide help with beds for this family so they can have a nice holiday together.

I have a wonderful sixteen-year-old girl that has been in care for one year. She finally has the opportunity to be placed with a family member instead of in a foster home. She was placed last Friday, and she looked so happy to be there. The family member was ready for her with her own room. However, when she went to get the queen size bed out of storage, it had been destroyed by the elements. The family member is a single person that would have to save up for many months to afford to pay for a new one. Right now, the sixteen-year-old is sleeping in the family member's bed and the family member is sleeping on the couch. This is not a long-term solution. We are requesting a new or used Queen size bed for a growing teenager. Thank you for your help in maintaining this family connection.

There are resources made available from the community. We are taking the lead and working out the details. Could you send over the contact information for the family?

Geoffrey:
Laura, thank you so much for your generosity to meet this need! Would you want to be involved in getting the bed to the recipient or have someone else handle that portion?
The child in care has been returned to their family and is currently on a return to monitor. The mother is a single woman with 6 children in her home. The dryer has recently went out at the home and the mother is having to go to the laundry mat. The mother reported having to complete at least 8-10 loads of laundry during her last session. The mother is currently on crutches from an injury and needs assist with dryer repairs or a new or gently used dryer. This family would benefit from having a dryer in the home so the mother can focus on healing and on the children.

I have a single father who is caring for his 11 year old daughter. The daughter is disabled and was recently discharged from the hospital. The father and child were kicked out of their home and are currently living in a hotel. The father is behind on his hotel bill and owes $225. If he doesn't catch up on his bill they will be kicked out of the hotel and become homeless. His daughter is also required to drink Pediasure everyday due to failure to thrive but they ran out and the father doesn't have enough funds to purchase anymore. If she doesn't get the nutrition needed she can lose weight, which will place her back in the hospital. I am also requesting $60 to purchase two boxes of Pediasure that will last her a month. The daughter was recently approved for disability and the father will have additional income to care for her once payment begins.
