We have a foster family with 4 children in the home. 3 are females ages: 15, 12 and 4 and a male age 9. These children are in need of some new winter clothes and all of the children need a winter coat. Gift cards would be best so the children can select their own clothing/coat. The foster parents said the 2 older girls like to shop at Rue 21 and the younger children are fine with WalMart gift cards. (WalMart or Target gift cards work for everyone! )These are wonderful parents who are very dedicated to the children in their care and any help will be greatly appreciated!

I am working with a family who shares joint custody of a child. Both parents do not work because of their disability, and have limited funds available, but the child they do have needs to receive ABA therapy. One parent is struggling and needs financial assistance (money for gas) for this current month as well as next month. Father has potentially secured other funds, but won't have access till December. Medicaid cab/van is available, however the van is not always on time and reliable. Would anyone be able to provide gas voucher? Thank you !!!

We have a mom and her 12 yo daughter who have been hosted with a SFFC family since early July. Their move out date from the host family home is the first week in November. This mom has been consistently searching for housing but keeps getting turned away because her work history is too short. Prior to the situation that led to mom/daughter leaving their home, mom did not have a steady work history because her husband provided most of the income. Also, mom has recently switched jobs to a higher paying one to be able to provide better for her family's needs. Mom has savings to pay the deposit and first month's rent - she's able to afford approximately $700/month rent plus utilities. Unfortunately, potential landlords keep giving the same feedback - they are scared to take on someone with such a short work history because of how renters acted during the pandemic (non-payment of rent, entitlement, etc.). This mom just can't get anyone to take a chance on her. Her kiddo is in school in the Forest district but they're originally from Gretna and are happy to live anywhere that will take them that is SAFE. Her kiddo was traumatized and safety is a high priority. This mom has exhausted all traditional housing avenues - she has no family to ask, the wait list is almost 2 years for housing voucher programs, she keeps calling and interviewing as a potential renter when housing comes available in her price range. So, here's the ASK we have for careportal community responders --- does anyone have a home with 2-3 bedrooms that they would be willing to rent to this mom? She can provide a letter of reference from the SFFC host family who's hosted her since July and she can provide a letter of reference from her current employer (even though the current employment is short, this employer has known her professionally for almost 20 years). Mom has 2 other kiddos who will visit her frequently in this new home. She's honest, hardworking, and dependable.

Mother is working to regain custody of her 2 year old son. The mother is on multiple waitlists to receive treatment for her health condition. The mother is struggling to work because of the health condition that she cannot get treatment for and is receiving zero income. In order to work and make it to appointments and visits with her child, the mother needs help with car repairs to be able to get back on the road and driving again. The Department is assisting the mother with independent living services but unfortunately cannot help with this kind of request, so I am asking our local churches to please assist this mother to get repairs covered for her vehicle to get back on the road. She could also use a gas card until she is able to work long enough to have some income coming in. Please consider covering this need to get this mother one step closer to reuniting with her 2 year old son!
