Parents are very, very young. They have two children, born 2/17/22 and 11/19/22. Both children have medical conditions that require them to be seen at U.Va monthly. The father's car recently broke down and the family has to rely on Medicaid transport and family/friends for transportation. I am requesting a $200 gas card to assist them with the cost of transportation.

This family consists of a 12-year-old female and her maternal grandparents. This child has really had a rough year in 2020. Her mother passed away, unexpectantly last year. In addition to that horrific loss, CPS is currently involved in her life because of substance abuse issues with her father. She is currently living with and in the custody of her grandparents at this time. She has a lot of anger and hurt. She is in counseling and also agreed that she might benefit from a mentor.

We placed the child with his grandparents due to safety concerns in the home. His mother has since been able to escape her violent marriage. There are concerns that he may not be able to remain with the grandparents if the needs are not met. The grandparents do reside out of the area. We are requesting a medication lockbox and a twin bed for the child. Right after placement, the household all got covid and fell behind on rent. The rent need may be more than can be met but I wanted to make it known as an additional need. This support would help maintain this kinship placement and show the mother support as she rebuilds her life. Because the relatives live out of the area, it may be best if the items are shipped directly to the family.

Boonsboro UMC is taking the lead on this request. Is there a church interested in building the relationship or someone interested in providing the bed and mattress?

Shepherds are willing to come alongside and help build the relationship.
The family is participating in services that have been required of them per their service plan. They are asking to have the last three sessions paid for to assist with elevating a financial burden off of them. The family has been compliant and is making an effort to better themselves as a whole.

A 14 year old boy is struggling significantly with mental heath. This boy has experienced physical abuse on at least one occasion by his father and is now having a hard time adjusting to being in the home with his aunt and uncle. This child has some anger management struggles and it is affecting his schooling, family relationships, and his placement. He loves orchestra and enjoys being a part of something that he loves, but does not like going to school which causes him to miss out on this activity. Aunt and Uncle share legal custody with the child's mother, but currently have primary physical custody, but are struggling to provide a safe and stable home for this child due to their own children in the home having special needs. Aunt, Uncle, and Mom do a great job at working together to co-parent, but are in desperate need of help with providing the child an outlet to release his emptions and help him with using healthy coping skills each week. I am looking for someone who is willing to spend a few hours a week with this child in order to help provide more support.

A single mom with three kids ages 1, 2, and 5 is in need of car repairs. Her van needs a new catalytic converter so she can drive it safely. She recently got custody of her daughter and is working towards a full-time job through taking classes. She is budget conscious and has taken several budget courses. Your donation would help her stay on track and continue to get groceries, take her kids to childcare, and go to her classes.
I am working with a single mother and her two young children ages 5 and 6 who are a currently homeless. The boys have extremely sensitive skin, excema, and sensory issues, and are in need of hygene items. The family could benefit greatly from support from the community in their time of need. They can use any soaps, shampoo, or conditioner that is fragrance free or for sensitive skin. They also could use fragrance free laundry detergent.

This family has been making continued progress with the Department - both parents have a history of substance abuse, but have been maintaining sobriety and actively participating in treatment and services. However, the family is experiencing financial difficulty, making it difficult for them to maintain an active phone line. This can make it challenging to access their support system if needed. Over the weekend, they obtained a prepaid phone - I am hoping to provide a few phone cards to help them keep this phone active while I assist them with continued financial management.

A single mother of 8 is attempting to reunify with her oldest child who has been placed out of the home for several months to receive psychiatric care. The child has made tremendous progress to the point that the team hopes to discharge him back home over the next two months, but housing has continued to be a primary barrier. The current living situation is not one that the child could return to, so housing is needed before reunification can occur. The mother has participated well throughout the case and has identified a potential rental property, but needs a security deposit and first month’s rent totalling $1850. We are requesting that CarePortal meet a portion of this need.

This family consists of seven siblings and their parents. The family lives in a single-family home here in Lynchburg. CPS became involved with this family recently and have opened an ongoing case. Several of the children are autistic and the family spends a lot of time with services and working with providers. The family is in need of seven twin size mattresses and a washer and dryer for the home. The washer and dryer set they have is broken and the children's current mattresses are very dirty and soiled. It is very difficult for them to get to the laundromat.

I am working with a bio-family. She is a single mom with a 3-year-old little girl. She works hard to make ends meet, but she has fallen behind in a car payment. She needs her vehicle to get back and forth to work, and to keep her child safe to get her to appointments or whatever need that she has. This would help the family to make sure mom maintains her job to pay her bills, and to give mom the help she needs to catch up on her bills. This would also help to take some stress of mom so you can spend more time with her little girl.

This child is 7 months and residing in a two-parent foster home. She has outgrown her bassinet and is in need of a crib and mattress. She has found one that fits the child's needs but is in need of an Amazon giftcard to make the purchase. The crib is 179 and the mattress is 30. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated to help relieve the financial burden for both foster mom and our agency!

This family consists of 3 children and a single mother. The children were previously in foster care but returned home to their mother a few months ago. Mom was recently involved in a car accident and so she may be out of work for a few weeks. The family is in need of help with their light bill. Mom reports that the bill jumped $900 in one month due to issues with the heating equipment in her home. She spoke with the landlord about this, and they have repaired the equipment but are refusing to help with the bill. Mom has paid $351 towards the bill herself and has also applied for Crisis heating assistance here at LDSS.

This family consists of a single pregnant mother, her fiancé, and her son. Several months ago, the fiancé severely broke his foot, which put him out of work for nearly two months. Being that he was an hourly worker and the injury happened off of the worksite, he was not granted any pay, which led the family to being evicted. Upon their arrival to the homeless shelter, they communicated that they hope to marry, find housing, and pay off debts before the new baby arrives this spring. However, this family is in need of transportation in order to find steady employment. If you could provide any number of 1 day or 30 day passes , the family can find employment. The mother can also attend her medical appointments.

I am not sure why the system added a response from me at the tail end of this conversation. All I did was approve Audrey's response and commitment to provide one of the bus passes. I'm not sure which of these comments are public and which are hidden, but just in case that confused anyone, I was only "committing and approving" Audrey Dubie's bus pass response. :-)
The mother and father have worked with the department previously and done well with maintaining personal goals and family achievements. The family is seeking a relationship with a local church as well as further assistance with their home.
A previous request was submitted for extermination services as well as repairs to a furnace. Since that request the family now has the opportunity to move into a NEW home. The previous request was not fulfilled but the family is now seeking assistance with a deposit and first month’s rent which are both $750.00 There are 5 children in the home ( ages 10, 6, 1 year old and 2 two-month-old twins).

This request is a for a single mother and her three children (oldest only visits her as he lives mostly with his father). The mother has been homeless off and on and more recently has been staying with a friend. She is currently working with an intensive outpatient program to help her abstain from drug use. She has recently found an apartment that she can afford and needs assistance furnishing it. She works as a CNA 3rd shift and despite being a very hard worker, picking up 16 hours shifts as often as possible, furnishing an entire apartment is out of her budget with needing to put a deposit down and first month's rent. She is working very hard to stay clean and sober and provide a stable home environment for her children. It's actually 3 twin beds and bed frames not 2.
I have checked prices at walmart for all of the following items.

Bedford DSS is currently working with a family of 3 including a 16 yo female child. The family resides in a older home that needs repairs. The family has the ability to independently complete some of the needs of the home however could be supported in assistance with roof repairs and supplies. The roof is leaking in one area of the home that has now caused mold in the specific bedroom. The Department is not aware of the severity of the repair therefore is unaware of exact cost that would be necessary.
