Monroe County Child Protective Services works with many youths and teens who may be struggling with mental health issues as a result of previous trauma or other reasons. As a result, we often discuss with families about the importance of locking up medications and sharp objects as a precautionary measure to keep teens safe from possible self-harm. We do this in conjunction with helping a family access mental health treatment in the community. Having medium to large size lock boxes to provide to families if they cannot afford these on their own is an essential tool to support families in keeping their kids safe.
