DHS is working with a family that is struggling financially. Mom works in Cripple Creek 4 days/wk and dad is unable to work due to medical issues. They just spent over $3,000 on the engine of their car and they cannot afford anything else at this time. The tires on the vehicle are in extremely bad shape and are unsafe. This is the only car the family has to get around. DHS was able to purchase 2 tires for the family and we are hoping to get assistance with purchasing the other 2. We received a quote from Canon Tire for $395 for all of them, but DHS will pay half so we are hoping to get $199 so this family can get around safely. We would appreciate any assistance you can provide to help this family. Thank you!

This current request is originally from Wythe county Department of social services. The Department is working with a biological mother to a child in foster care. Child came into foster care, at no fault of the mother, due to death of a relative who had custody. The mother and her husband own their home and have limited resources. The family has been renovating a room in their basement for this young man (age 16) to come home to. The room is just in need of new carpet. This is the only thing needed to complete The Department is requesting any help that can be provided.

We are currently working with a kinship foster home who has taken in a 10 year old boy. The family is working hard on getting fully approved and connecting the child to appropriate needs. The family is needing support with a bill until they are consistently receiving assistance from DHS. The family, located in Hall co. is facing a situation where unsafe and unhealthy conditions have developed due to the accumulation of debris and junk. These conditions pose potential risks to the family’s health and safety, and it is imperative that the area be cleared in order to prevent further hazards. The family is unable to afford or manage the removal of these items on their own, and as part of our efforts to improve their living situation, we would greatly appreciate assistance in providing a dumpster for safe and responsible disposal. We have providers who are hired and helping the family clean the home. If they are not able get the home in a livable condition, the 7 children could enter foster care.

Individual has had numerous on going medical issues and concerns coming up on 2 years now. he has been unable to work and with financial struggles with making rent, utilities, etc. He has been denied for county and state assistance due crazy reason for example the value of his assets which he only owns 1 car which is non drivable at the moment . We are asking for assistance in ensuring this gentleman is able to get to his appointments and paying his rent and utilities. This request is for a Summit family in need of some assistance. A single mom with 5 kids is moving into a new home. The purchase of the home along with expensive closing costs have made furnishing the home extremely difficult. In addition to the needs list, they could use bedding for each bed. Also, regarding the kitchen table, a rectangle table with 6 chairs would work best for this family. The will be ready to receive these items on or after May 10th. Thank you in advance for your help!

We have a couple at our campus who is needing some help with rent assistance. The husband is facing a chronic illness and is seeking employment that is flexible with his health. They have two teens in their home who they support. The family has gone through seasons where they have relied solely on the wife's income and are currently catching up on rent. This request is for a family with 3 children, one of the children is an adoptive placement. This family needs 6 dining chairs. Several of the families dining chairs have broken or are not safe for use.
