Story
Part One // A family previously assisted by our network faces new challenges after the mother's job change. Their eighth-grade son learned to use public transportation last fall to help reduce transportation expenses, but now needs a new spring/summer bus pass to continue his activities. Household changes have increased financial pressure as older siblings have moved back home, causing bills and expenses to nearly triple. Both parents have medical conditions requiring phone monitoring, creating difficult choices between utilities, medications, and communication tools. The mother has taken steps toward financial recovery by securing a part-time position at Lighthouse, working 10 hours weekly. I am connecting her to community resources, including St. Vincent de Paul's Charitable Pharmacy and food pantries at Lighthouse and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Their son has the opportunity to participate in Lighthouse's annual eighth-grade mission trip, but needs essential items, including bedding (sleeping bag, sheets, pillow) and appropriate clothing. These items will support travel, ministry, and his daily needs upon return. Immediate needs: Spring/summer bus pass for an eighth-grade student ($215), mission trip essentials ($295). Estimated values reflect the total costs for items found on Amazon, excluding coupons or other discounts, as well as taxes, shipping, and CarePortal transaction fees.
