Story
I am working with a grandmother who is the legal, custodial guardian of her four grandchildren: a 7-year-old, a 3-year-old, a 14-month-old, and a 4-month-old. She is raising these children on her own in a small two-bedroom unit within a 55+ community. Despite being on a fixed income due to disability, she has taken full responsibility for the care of all four children, providing them with stability, love, and a safe home environment.
Recently, the family experienced a bedbug infestation that required them to dispose of all beds and most furniture. They are currently without proper sleeping arrangements, and the lack of beds is especially difficult with such young children in the home. The grandmother has continued to meet her grandchildren’s daily needs as best she can, but replacing these essential items is beyond her current financial capacity.
She is requesting the following items: One adult bed One bed for a 7-year-old (a bunk bed could be a helpful space-saving option) One toddler bed for a 3-year-old Two cribs or safe sleep spaces for a 14-month-old and a 4-month-old Basic bedding for all beds A small sofa or seating option, if possible
This grandmother has shown incredible resilience in the face of challenging circumstances. Providing these beds and furniture would make an immediate and meaningful difference in the comfort, safety, and emotional well-being of this family.
