I’m working with an 18 y.o. girl through the Great Expectations program at Virginia Western. The student is studying to be a nurse, and has maintained 3.3 GPA this year while working two jobs to pay for her rent and housing. She was in foster care through Craig Co. until she was 17, when she completed a return home goal. However, this situation was not a healthy environment. She moved out the week before her 18th birthday, into a home through Fostering Champions. This summer, she decided she wanted more independence, and has found a new place to live in Vinton. Since the student completed a return home goal, she cannot access any of the typical Foster Care funding. She is receiving a housing stipend through the Great Expectations program.

Currently, she only has a bed in her new apartment. She is in need of a microwave, a couch/loveseat, a small table, a night stand, and other similar furnishings. It doesn't need to be new, just something to make it more comfortable to live in. She could also use financial assistance to purchase some new clothes and to stock her new kitchen with cooking essentials.

Since she is new to Vinton, she would also love to connect with a church with a strong young adult group. She is open to meeting anyone who might be able to assist her. I'd love to help our community connect with her to support her in her goals.

The child was born premature and substance exposed. After spending time in intensive care, the child was placed with a very loving relative. The child is six months old. The child is now sitting up to eat, however, the caregiver does not have a highchair. With costs beginning to pile up the caregiver currently cannot afford a highchair. The caregiver is also requesting assistance with size 2 diapers. Supplying the caregiver with the highchair and diapers will help with the child's wellbeing.

Two children on my caseload (7 and 10) are living with their aunt temporarily in Omaha while their mother tries to get back on her feet. The aunt is supporting them off of a single income, and has been struggling with attaining furniture. She had received a dresser, but tells me that it is starting to fall apart on her. We would request a dresser for the two children to share, so that their clothes can be properly stored in the room that they share.

A first-time mom recently gave birth to her baby and is needing assistance with paying $100 initial daycare fee. The mother is able to pay the daily overage fee for the daycare. The mother was provided with community resources to assist with other needs.

These high risk parents are requesting help with their car insurance bill with Geico. They are past due in the amount of $615. They are working with a local fatherhood nonprofit who may be able to assist with half the amount. Father was out of work for a few months due to a surgical procedure. He is back working now; however, during the time of not working, the parents fell behind on their bills. In particular, their car insurance bill. Having the assistance with allow them to keep their vehicles on the road to get back and forth to work and be able to continue providing for their children. This will also help relieve some of the stressors already in the home from the impending foreclosure of their home. Thank you for your consideration.

A widow of two children, who has a full time job, got behind on bills and rent when her company went on strike a few months ago. Jesus emphasized the importance of caring for widows and young children in need. Would you be willing to help this mom get back on her feet?

They don't have much money and when someone in our Church spoke to them and told them we can help them out. They cried. They need dressers 1-3, ac, toddler bed and mattress, Diapers size 4 (Huggies) wipes unsented, boys clothes 12-18 months. end tables, baby gate, bedding for a toddler bed, bedding for a queen bed, women's clothes xl, mens clothes m-l. A father at Point Church has recently regained custody of his children. He is in need of car seats for his 5 year old and 7 year old. The type of car seat that converts from a 5 point harness to a booster seat would be ideal. It would be a huge blessing for him to have these by June 6th so he can safely transport his children.

We’re reaching out on behalf of a beloved retired pastor and former U.S. Marine who served at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He’s now facing serious health issues, including bladder cancer, and chronic kidney disease linked to toxic water exposure during his service, in addition he’s had multiple strokes and has dementia. Though he qualifies under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act, he’s not yet received any compensation or VA benefits. He currently lives in a board and care facility, but his Social Security falls $800 short each month. His wonderful daughter, who visits and helps care for him, has been covering the difference. Unfortunately, she suffered a medical emergency in March and hasn’t been able to work and has had to move in with a friend. Due to errors in processing her short-term disability, she hasn’t received income since then. Her close friends stepped in to help cover the past 2 months but they can no longer continue. With 2 months of unpaid board and care approaching, no clear timeline for when she’ll receive payment, and no other options, she is extremely worried about how she’ll cover the costs for June and July. We’re working on VA benefits and finding a more affordable facility if her income isn’t restored soon, but that is a lengthy process. In the meantime, we’re asking for your help to keep this faithful man who gave his life to serving God and our country in his current facility and not be forced onto the street. A member of our church reached out to us as she is trying to help a single momma rebuild after abuse, marital separation, homelessness, and recently welcoming twin babies into the world. They were recently blessed with a safe place to stay, and someone has fronted three months rent on a place of their own, which they will be moving into next month. They have a long list of needs as when the twins entered the world two weeks ago she only had a onesie each. We understand we may not be able to fulfill every need but anything and everything collected is greatly appreciated.
