Parents of two school age youth are needing assistance with $410 for School lunch bill. The mother of the family recently left her job due to health issues in the last month and a half. Client father works full time and overtime. Recently family replaced a washer and dryer and have roof damage from recent storms and working with insurance for coverage of a portion of fee.
Family made a payment to the school and have a deadline of May 18th. Case Manager met with family and called school to make payment arrangements, and applied for reduced lunches but was denied. Family agreed to payments of $50 a month until paid in full.
Steps to prevent the school lunch fees from reaching over whelming amount again include:
- Check the Parent Portal from school website regularly to ensure any lunch charges are due.
- Budget
- Pack home lunches; family has collaborated a plan to Show, Assist, and Allow the kids to pack on their own and support development of routine.
- Family meetings- game, discussion of needs with income and school lunches, set expectations and consequences.
- Continue making payments to school as agreed
Assistance will help family with being able to tend to current financial stress and obligations. While starting the new school year with $0 balance and stay on track with keeping up with lunch fees.
