A resilient foster youth is in need of a bike to support her growing independence as she prepares to graduate high school this June and begin college in the fall. She currently walks everywhere—whether it’s to school, her placement, or around the neighborhood. A bike would not only make her daily commute to and from school easier, but it would also give her the freedom to visit friends, explore job opportunities, and begin building the life she’s working so hard to achieve. She would be incredibly grateful for the chance to own a bike of her own. If possible, she has a preference for a red mountain bike, and she is approximately 5’4” tall. This simple gift would offer her more than just transportation—it would provide a sense of freedom, safety, and encouragement as she takes her next steps toward adulthood. Despite facing significant daily challenges, the mother remains committed to maintaining the stability and well-being of her family. She provides full-time, in-home care to both adult sons through the IHSS program, which serves as her primary source of income. Her responsibilities leave little room for outside employment, as her sons require constant supervision and support with daily living tasks. The family is currently in critical need of a new refrigerator. Their current appliance is leaking and unable to maintain safe food storage temperatures, creating serious health and safety concerns. The need is especially urgent given the sons' dietary sensitivities and the mother’s already compromised health, which she has had to place on hold in order to meet the demands of caregiving. The mother has no local support system her closest relatives live in Mexico and there are no alternative funding options available at this time. A new refrigerator will help preserve the family’s stability and allow the mother to continue providing consistent care without further health or financial setbacks.

I am reaching out on behalf of a devoted grandmother who has unexpectedly found herself caring for her four young grandchildren. These children were left in her care by their father, and while she has welcomed them with open arms and unconditional love, she is facing an overwhelming challenge.

The family is currently living in a small one-bedroom unit, and unfortunately, there are no proper sleeping arrangements for the children. Each night, they sleep on the floor—an arrangement that has already begun to affect their rest and their well-being.

We are urgently seeking support to help this grandmother create a more stable and nurturing environment. Bunk beds are the most appropriate and space-saving solution to accommodate the four children in the limited space. This small change would make a significant impact on their well-being, health, and ability to thrive during this transitional time.

We at GFL occasionally encounter needs in our community and we are currently working with a family in our community that is in dire need of rent assistance. The current situation is that this family of 7 will be evicted with doors locked as of the morning of May 27th at 6am unless a payment of $2,500 (money order/cashier's check) is made by close of business on the 26th. This passionate mother is working hard to provide and keep her home intact. Your support of this rent assistance will provide the much needed stress relief and "breathing room" to keep her family whole, housed, and united. Blessings.

Caregiver is 67 years old and recently retired. She is caring for a 13 girl and has had her since she was 8 months old. When she was working she did not need financial assistance however now that she is no longer working she is in need of some help with a dresser for the adolescent girl. Sometimes the child's twin brother comes to visit. Caregiver does not receive any funding nor has DCFS ever been involved. Child is doing well in school. This was an informal agreement between the parent and caregiver. We have referred the family to the Foster Children's Resource Center for clothing. Caregiver is surviving on her Social Security and food stamps. Caregiver has a car but rarely uses it due to not having money for gas so if we could help with a GAS Card it would be a great relief to them as they try to walk everywhere and now it is getting very hot. The family could also use some new bedding. Caregiver and the child sleep on twin size bunk beds and both are in need of bedding. Their small apt has no air conditioning so if we could provide them with a portable a/c unit it would be amazing.

Good morning, friends. I have been made aware of a young woman who is 7 1/2 months into a high-risk pregnancy, who has a connection with someone in our church. Part of what she is struggling with is that one of the twins she is carrying passed away quite early in the pregnancy. She has also been in and out of the hospital with various infections, but the baby is fine. She had to quit her job so she has no income and is also not physically able to get out to purchase what she needs. She is being supported emotionally by the baby's father and her parents, but they do not have the means to equip a nursery. If you have ANY baby items taking up space that you would be willing to part with or can help provide any of the items listed, it would be so encouraging and greatly appreciated by them all. She is having a girl and they do have some clothes. I do not expect all of these items to be provided, but I am just throwing out ideas. Thank you so much!
