Youth has been donated a refrigerator for her new apartment. She needs assistance in picking up the item and bringing it to her new apartment. The refrigerator is required in order for the apartment to be approved for funding by DCFS. This youth as shown to be very independent and self-sufficient. She has been enrolled in school full time at a local community college where she is a member of the school’s wrestling team. She has also been employed at least part-time since she turned 18. This youth has never let being in the foster care system hold her back from accomplishing her goals for a successful future. The assistance needed will allow her to continue in her progress toward independent and establishing herself as a productive member of society. Without this assistance to secure the refrigerator it would cause her a financial burden as she would then have to purchase one on her own and would put her ability to maintain her apartment a risk. She has minimal support from family and her current foster mother would not be unable to pick up this large item. She has always followed through on anything asked of her and has been a great youth to work with. It would be very unfortunate if this one item caused her to not be able to, or delayed, her move into this new residence. It is the hope that the assistance needed would be given and the youth can continue to be a success story instead of another foster youth that the system failed.

The mother of the family is needing phone card due to hers no longer working. This would allow for the mother of the children to be able to communicate with her providers, attorney and caseworker to ensure that she is following her court ordered treatment plan. It has been difficult for the mother of the children to report when she is going to miss her appointments or other treatment without having a phone. Thank you!

A mother of a 6 yr old girl, who is placed with kin in Colorado Springs, was released from jail in Georgia and returned home on 5/12/2025. She moved into a sober living home so she will have a safe place to stay and where she can work on her sobriety. Due to just returning to work, she does not yet have the means to pay for her first month. A visa gift card in the amount of $375 would assist her to ensure the first month is paid as she begins her journey towards sobriety and ultimately, reunification with her daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and non-verbal. This request being met would be a huge blessing in this young mom's life. Thank you so much for considering!

This request is on behalf of a biological father whose truck has broken down and needs financial assistance for a part to repair his truck. Father is currently unable to work, as he is recovering from a recent foot surgery. Paternal Aunt has had a 10-year-old niece placed with her 12 hours ago. She already has 1 year old sibling placed in the home. Child came with nothing. Child need shorts, shirts, underwear, and pajamas size 12. Sports bra size 10/12. Socks and shoes size 4. Personal hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hairbrush, hair ties, and toothbrush. Caregiver needs a twin folding bed, dresser for clothes, toddler bed with rails. Pull ups size 2t-3t and wipes (not pampers). Caregiver has not received any funding, and she is trying to move things around to accommodate the children and her space. Assistance would greatly help support this placement.

The maternal aunt has stepped in as an out-of-home safety monitor for her teenage nephew, providing him with a safe and stable environment while the family works through ongoing challenges. Unfortunately, the aunt’s food stamp benefits were recently hacked, leaving her without critical resources to feed her household. She is doing her best to provide for the teen and maintain stability, but with limited income and no access to her food benefits for the rest of the month, she is struggling to meet their basic needs. We are asking for support in providing assistance for their utility bill this month. Even the smallest amount helps!

A single mom unexpectedly lost her job causing her to be unable to pay her rent for the month of May placing her and her high school age child and child who is a young adult at risk for homelessness. She has already found a new job and is motivated to get back on her feet. Would you be willing to show this mom a little kindness? A young family from Afghanistan arrived in Holland a few months ago and is in need of support. While the dad speaks a few phrases in English, they primarily speak Pashto and have 4 children (plus one more on the way due in August). Their 10 year old son is currently enrolled at an elementary school on the northside of Holland. The younger siblings are a 5 year old boy and two girls aged 4 and 6 months. The father worked for the US Military in Afghanistan for 15 years before coming to Lansing with his family in 2021. He worked in a car factory in Lansing, but decided to come to Holland to be closer to friends when his family lost housing. The father is still searching for local employment, but is able to drive his own small car. They have borrowed funds for rent the past few months, but are running out of options. Any help would be a gift as we search for more sustainable income for their family!

Movement West Michigan has been made aware of the needs of this family and are working with multiple local agencies and churches to coordinate immediate support as they work toward long-term stability.
