Story
A request is being made on behalf of a grandmother who has moved from Tennessee to Florida to care for her granddaughter. The child was removed from her parents in Florida due to substance misuse. The caregiver is still paying for her primary residence in Tennessee, as that is where she is insured and is planning to receive medical treatment. Due to having to maintain two residences, the grandmother is struggling financially and is behind on rent and utility bills in Florida. The caregiver recently moved into a mobile home in Florida that was her son's residence, solely to care for her granddaughter while the biological parents work their case plan. In doing so, her granddaughter was able to be kept out of the foster care system. The caregiver cannot work due to having a serious medical condition and taking care of her granddaughter. A request is being made for a total of $1,500; the grandmother is $1,100 behind on rent and behind $400 on her electric bill. This placement supports the concept of kinship in our community. In fulfilling this request, the grandmother will be able to stabilize her housing situation in Florida to maintain placement of her granddaughter. We appreciate any support that can be provided to this family.
