I am reaching out on behalf of one of our Children’s Church students who is currently in foster care. Her mother has recently secured employment and is in the process of transitioning to a new home. While this is a positive step forward for their family, it has also placed a significant financial strain on them. Due to these circumstances, the family is unable to afford the registration fee for summer camp. However, we strongly believe that this child would greatly benefit from the experience—emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Camp would provide her with a safe, uplifting environment and a chance to grow in confidence and faith during a time of major life change. A single mom was living in the a back house apartment unit that she was renting and was burned in the fires. On December 27, she had just given birth to her son. She wasn't due until the middle of January. On January 5th, she had a baby shower that was already scheduled and had received everything that she needed for the baby. Everything from the fire, along with everything else she owned went up in the fires. She was working at a day care that also burned. So she not only lost everything, but lost her job. She will start work at a new day care in July (once her son turns 6 mons to be in the day care with her). She's been able to find a place with the help of friends and family, but has no furniture. She is in need of not only a bed and bedroom furniture for her, but a couch, a crib for her baby, a stroller, clothes for her and for the baby. A basinet, a baby bath, teethers, bottles, pacifiers, everything. I believe that talking with her and seeing her with her baby boy, she wants to get on track from the fires. She has experienced so much as a young single mother in last few months that this would truly be a blessing to her.

This family has been working with the Department for almost a year. Recent changes have impacted the family including the father needing to leave the home, losing his job, filing for bankruptcy, and losing his unemployment due to legal fees and other obligations. He continues to engage with the Department and all the requirements needed despite the daily challenges he faces. As he continues to do the work needed for his family and children, any assistance to help with food and snacks for the kids would be great!

This family has been working with the family for a couple months. There is an extensive amount of trauma that these teenage girls have been subjected too. As they make another transition in the foster care system, the foster mom could use some help with groceries. The girls on this case are trying to keep up with their extracurricular activities (horseback riding/showing) but with the recent change might not be able to keep enjoying the one activity that helps them cope with their current situation.

This request is for rent assistance for a family of six currently living in an extended stay hotel. The mother is on short-term disability following a workplace injury and is doing her best to support the family through Uber and Instacart when her condition allows. The father is actively seeking employment but has not yet secured a position. With four young children- ages 6, 8, 3, and 2—the family is struggling to meet basic living expenses during this difficult time. Any support to help them maintain stable housing while the mother recovers would be deeply appreciated.

A local woman in Altadena was in her home for 5 years when she lost it to the Eaton Fires. When the fires hit, she had to leave the house in the middle of the night. Not thinking she wouldn't be back in her house, she left her medical supplies-- sleep apnea, masks, oxygen purse, tubing, and filters. She is needing to replace all of this to enable her not only to have a "good" sleep, but to have safe sleep. Her insurance isn't willing to replace it since they already paid out for these items. She needs to purchase some warm weather clothing, especially ones that will fit loose and light for her surgery healing. The immediate ask is to help her replace the medical equipment.

Mom with 2 children, ages 5 and 13 is having financial difficulty due to being out of work and food stamp scam. She has been in training for a job at a new Sheetz near her home, but employment has been delayed due to delay of the opening. She does have cleaning jobs on the side, but this doesn't provide a lot of income. She lost $975 in food stamps due to a recent scam. Her critical need at this time is for her electric bill to be paid to prevent disconnection. She needs $1395 to pay in full.

A brave mom in our church community has endured years of physical and emotional abuse. Just four days after undergoing a double mastectomy for breast cancer, her husband threatened her with a weapon. She fled for her safety, obtained a restraining order and filed for divorce. They share two daughters, ages 9 and 3. Her husband is now seeking full custody of their daughters and he’s spreading false claims to their 9 year-old that her mom doesn’t want to see her. This has caused deep emotional trauma for their daughter. While the court has ordered joint custody for now, mother and the 9 year old daughter are in reunification counseling, which costs $1,000 a month paid by the mom alone. The father, who is on disability for severe mental illness, lives with his parents, who are covering his legal fees. He pays no child support or alimony. Meanwhile, the mom is also on disability during cancer treatment and receives just 30% of her salary. She’s facing mounting legal fees in her fight to protect and reunite with her daughters. She is currently $1,100 short on rent due to a recent attorney payment. She needs urgent financial support to cover her rent. This young man is a junior in high school. The student lives between his parents house and grandparents house. His grandmother has been experiencing some health challenges since that end of last year and this has taken a noticeable on this young man. The added cost of medical expenses for grandmother has left nothing to go towards extra curricular activities. As a result the student has begun to sell snack items at school to help support himself. This young man would benefit greatly by attending summer camp and be encouraged in his pursuit of high school graduation. This opportunity would be a light at the end of a very dark for this young man and serve as a reminder that hard work pays off not just in the future but now.

This request is on behalf of a 17 year old high school student. This student is the oldest of 4 siblings and currently lives with their mother and father. The mother is not involved in the student's life and leaves the majority of the day to day responsibility to the father to care for and provide for the student and his younger siblings. Student does well in school and has been prioritizing his grades and school work. The student has expressed interest in going to summer camp but does not have the funds to attend. Attending summer camp would give the student much needed encouragement to continue to work hard towards his future goal of playing football at the college level.
