Story
Paternal Grandmother (PGM), age 71, has guardianship of Child (CH), age 12. PGM has been caring for CH since she was born, and was awarded guardianship due to concerns for substance use, mental health, and housing instability for CH's parents. PGM is not working at this time, and has limited resources to meet the family's needs, she is breaking even on expenses and has little to spend on new or used items for the home. All furniture within the home is inherited for donated. CH has been struggling with self-harm ideations and behaviors due to her parents' current situation; the Department has provided resources to assist. PGM stated that poor mental health runs in the family; it would strengthen the family and ease mental/logistical burden for this request to be fulfilled. PGM is doing her best to meet CH's needs, but is in need of some household furniture to do so, including a dresser, desk, and desk chair for CH. CH is in summer school right now, and having a desk and chair in her own space will encourage her to keep up with her academics. Additionally, having a dresser would allow CH to keep her room organized and clean, also having a positive impact on her mental health.
