Thanks to a generous donation from the University of Florida, we now have 80 twin bed frames ready to bless families in need across Marion County! We’re launching a MATTRESS & BEDDING DRIVE to make sure each child receives not just a bed frame, but a complete set for a safe and comfortable night’s sleep. So far, 42 families have already expressed the need. Many of these children are currently sleeping on couches, air mattresses, or even the floor. Let’s give children a bed where they can lie down and sleep in peace. In some cases, providing a bed is the final step needed for a child to return home to their family. This simple gift can open the door to reunification and healing. We’re starting with 42 beds, knowing that more requests are coming in each day. Relative caregiver is Maternal Great Grandmother to 1 1/2 year old boy. Child was recently placed as a result of a DCFS investigation alleging physical abuse to 2 month old siblings (twins) by parents. Due to expediency of emergency placement, the caregiver was not adequately equipped and is found in need of a dresser to store child's clothing.

The department who is working with a potential adoptive family for a sibling group of 3 youth that are placed in a kinship home. This kinship provider is unable to provide groceries for the youth and her biological kids in the home. The family is looking for any assistance that can be provided. Thank you.

Grandparents are currently taking care of their grandson who is going to turn 3 years old in August. Both of his parents are currently incarcerated. They are living in an RV, yesterday the electricity went out in the RV. They are also behind on rent. (we are working on getting landlord information and more details and will add as a need later). The grandson currently does not have any diapers and the grandma is using her own depends for him. He wears a size 10 kids size shoes, 4T clothes, size 7 diapers. 3-4 T pull-ups.

The family does not have a working phone. They are open to things being dropped off at their address. Transportation is CART at this time due to lack of gas money and needing to use funds for other things.

The biggest concern is that the family is currently without electricity and no food storage because of this. We are going to find out the reason they do not have electricity and will request assistance for these things once we know more, but we wanted to at least get the request out for the physical items for the child listed above ASAP. UPDATE: Power has been reinstated. Family needs help catching up on their rent. They own 600 for last month and 600 for this month. Churches will need to pay landlord directly and information will be given to churches upon their claim for the need.

Current Emergency Response Social Worker met with the family and found mother and child recently arrived in the US and began living with strangers who took them in off the streets. The environment with this new family was not helpful for child’s fragile mental health, as she was already experienced sexual abuse and physical abuse and witnessed severe domestic violence between mother and father. Over the course of the week, mother was able to rent a new room in LA 90001 to help alleviate some stress and anxiety for her child. Mother is in need of a small/slim refrigerator for food storage. One of our favorite Wooddale Staff is needing to move to California for family reasons and needs our Helping Hands at her home, preferably the week of July 21 and all work completed by July 27. The following needs to be addressed are listed:

1.) there is a decent sized hole in the drywall that needs filling (from my mom’s oxygen tank)

2.) help with weeding planter beds and trimming shrubs

We have a family in the church that has recently taken a kinship placement of their niece who is 18 months old. They are in need of a convertible car seat. If you have one to give or would like to help purchase one please let me know. Lets wrap around this family and bless them.

This single mom of two boys has been unemployed after the birth of her second child who is now 4 months old. She also has a 2.5 yr old at home who was recently diagnosed with autism. Their father is absent due to legal troubles and she is not receiving child support at this time. She got a job offer yesterday and accepted so will be starting to work again this week. Her natural supports are few as her mother struggles with addiction. She is very grateful for the help of her grandmother who assists with childcare. She and her children have been living in a 1 bdrm apt and have been approved for a 2 bedroom but are lacking resources for the security deposit. She has a mattress on the floor but would love a bed frame for it to provide more comfort, and she is ready to transition her 2.5 year old son to a twin bed, which will allow them all to have a better nights rest. Security deposit and Bed items are priorities. She would love to have a table and chair set for her son to eat at and bar stools so she can eat at the kitchen counter. This is a church vetted request that originated at the North Side DCC campus. She is very willing to accept a visit from our team to provide encouragement and spiritual support. Referrals to helping agencies have been made as well. Provision for these needs will provide relief from a crowded and stressful living situation, as well as restful nights sleep for the family as they navigate their challenges.
