Story
A dedicated and resilient 76-year-old great-grandfather and his equally devoted wife—great-grandparents to a 10-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy—are in urgent need of partial rental assistance for the month of July. This loving caregiver has already contributed $500 toward rent but is facing a remaining shortfall of $800. The financial hardship stems from the great-grandfather’s ongoing medical challenges, including congestive heart failure. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he has been required to travel to Cleveland, Ohio, for specialized care. These necessary trips have brought additional out-of-pocket costs for travel, lodging, and medical-related expenses that Medicare does not fully cover. Currently, the couple relies solely on their Social Security income to support themselves and the two young children in their care. The OhioKAN Navigator is actively assisting the family in applying for financial supports, including Child Only–Ohio Works First and the Kinship Permanency Incentive Program, which could help bring some long-term stability. In the meantime, any assistance toward this month's rent would be deeply appreciated and could make a critical difference in helping this family avoid eviction during an already difficult time.
