Social worker was made aware that caregiver’s refrigerator just went out and to be able to meet the needs of the family. The youth is placed with paternal aunt and although parental rights have terminated, this placement supports the youth’s ability to maintain placement and permanency with family. This caregiver stepped in to support the youth during a time in which she was having several replacements and behavioral challenges. Placement with paternal aunt appeared to help stabilize the youth and she has been doing well in her care since 10/2024. The necessity of the refrigerator is essential as it not only provides food storage for our youth in the home, but also provides it for her family. If the family is able to obtain a refrigerator it will provide financial relief to caregiver as she will not need to utilize a large portion of the family’s funds for this necessary home item. Caregiver appreciates that the Department is willing to advocate of their behalf and request that a refrigerator be provided to the family

ASAP URGENT NEED: A loving family is facing an immediate crisis and desperately needs our help. A mother and her three young children have been abandoned and are now facing eviction from their home by July 11th. They have no other options and are in urgent need of assistance.

They are seeking help with a U-Haul and movers to facilitate their move tomorrow, July 10th. While the mother is working, her income, particularly during the summer when school is out, is not enough to cover these unexpected and critical expenses.

Any support you can offer to this beautiful family during this incredibly difficult time would be profoundly appreciated.

The youth is currently placed in the home of a non-related extended family member, where he feels welcome and supported. The caregiver has taken in this youth to prevent him from going into foster care, as the youth has experienced multiple losses. The youth is in need of a portable air conditioner for the room he is currently staying in. The apartment does not have central A/C and only has a single unit in the living area. CSW has seen caregiver provide the youth with emotional stability, genuine interest in the youth’s academic success, and providing for his basic necessities. The caregiver has been able to provide for the basic needs of the youth, but this unexpected expense for an air conditioner is difficult for the sole provider of the home. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because it will allow the youth to be comfortable in the home during these hot summer days, it also reduces the stress for the caregiver in having to provide this item are caregiver’s finances are strained. Due to the location of the apartment within the building they are not allowed to have a window-unit AC and are requesting a portable one to vent at the window. DCFS does not provide this item. The estimated cost of the portable air conditioner being requested is around $300, some links are provided as well.

Please help a young mother who is recently homeless and now living in a motel with her three children, all under age 3.

The family was reported to Human Services because they continually missed medical appointments, and now we are trying to help improve their situation by meeting basic and urgent needs. The mother has no transportation, no food for the children, no storage for her belongings, and no way to wash clothes. The family is awaiting placement in a shelter (they have pending applications at 3 shelters). To stay in the hotel a few more days, the mother needs $90 per night.

Her youngest child is an 8-month old who was born premature; the child has significant weight loss and a developmental delay related to lack of nutrition. the child needs Similac Neosure Formula (yellow can) to be able to eat, a Pack and Play for safe sleep, and a stroller so the mother can take them to medical appointments and find other resources.

Additionally, this family could greatly benefit from food for the children, hotel vouchers, and long-term housing.

Maternal Grandmother is in need of a twin sized bunkbed frame and mattresses for her two grandchildren children. The family has been temporarily staying with maternal grandmother while mother continues to try to find her own place to live with the children but has not been successful. Mother lost her job a few months ago due to cutbacks and has struggled to find new work while addressing the needs of her children; including securing housing. Although, mother is having that challenge, mother is meeting the case plan goals/court orders. Furthermore, mother is committed to ensuring the children’s needs are met and maintained. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because mother informed the Department the bed used by the family was recently broken and no longer usable. The children were previously sharing a daybed. Mother shared that a bunk bed would be the best option so each child may have their own bed. Currently the family is using a blow up mattress which is not suitable for sleeping long term. This need is critical to ensuring that the children have somewhere secure to sleep of their own as that would be the safest sleeping arrangement for the children. This need is being requested through Care Portal because unfortunately DCFS does not currently have this item and if requested, the timeframe DCFS takes would be too long as some requests take up to 8 – 10 weeks. The estimated cost of the need/s being requested is $750.00.

A single mom has secured housing mid July. She has 3 young children. She currently is employed and is attending a Bible study regularly. She has mentors set up to walk with her moving forward. She has saved and is 400 short on initial move in expenses.

A Karen family that has been recently able to move into a house now has the fun of doing the yard work. They really could use a lawn mower to help them. if you have a new or a used one that runs well, please consider donating it to them.

Two youths who aged out are in need of storage space as they're in temporary housing with an old foster parent, a queen bed, and an air conditioner.

A family that received a crib for a kinship placement could use a kitchen table, chairs, and a couch. This will help the family with ongoing needs.
