Story
A 16 year old youth has recently entered care after being removed from his family. The youth suffered a tragic accident when he was 12, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury and wheel chair bond. After multiple attempts to locate an appropriate placement for the youth, fictive kin came forward to provide the youth with the care and support that he needs. Unfortunately, the fictive kin are having to quickly transform their home to make it wheel chair accessible. The family was provided with a ramp for the youth but it does not fit their home and does not allow them to freely move the child in and out of the home for school and his many medical appointments. The agency is asking for funds or assistance with obtaining an appropriate ramp for the home and installation. The type of ramp needed for the youth is expensive and not covered by insurance at this time. Any assistance to help this youth and the family be as safe and mobile as possible would be greatly appreciated. In addition to the wheel chair ramp, the couple is having to remove their current dining room table to allow the youth more room to navigate his wheel chair. Therefore, the agency is asking assistance in obtaining/finding a smaller table and chairs for the home.
