CASA has a really hard case with a 13-year-old girl who was removed from the adults in her life due to really extreme physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect. She is a child of color and does not know how to take care of her hair properly and it is very damaged. Some products that have been recommended to her are Hair Mayonnaise, several products from My Black is Beautiful (shampoo, conditioner, conditioning cream and detangling spray) and to get braids (needs the hair pieces to braid in). Items can be bought in-person or online and will be delivered to the youth by the advocate, who she trusts. Thank you for considering helping with this unique request.

Hello Community Supporters! We are holding our annual Kinship/Foster Parent Appreciation Celebration in June 2023! Kinship families are unique in that they take placement of children on an emergency basis who they have a prior relationship with in order to prevent children from being placed in the foster-care system. Placing children with family or friends often reduces the trauma children go through when separated from parents and it strengthens the natural familial and community supports they already have in place. Families do this with little to no ongoing financial support, yet they make it work everyday for these precious children. Foster families are such a need in this community and they open their homes to children with no where else to go. These families selflessly get licensed knowing the need in our community. They have to complete a rigorous process to open their home and cooperate with several agencies and the court system as well as be an advocate for the foster child in their home. If the community didn't have foster parents, more children would be in DHS offices without placement. Showing our appreciation will ensure we can maintain these vital resources in child welfare and hopefully encourage others to help in ways they are able and advocate for children with DHS involvement. The Kinship/Foster Care Unit is hoping to be able to provide gift cards to each family at the event in the amount of $50 for grocery stores, Walmart or Target, or other locations in tow

A friend of the family is placement for a teenager. Their daughters attend school together. The caregiver is in need of gift cards to help offset expenses for clothes, food, and gas. TANF and food stamps are still pending, so this provider has been meeting the child's need for over two months from her personal resources. The child has had some struggles since being placed in the home and is hopeful to enjoy fun activities such as guitar lessons. Assistance in gift cards would allow the caregiver to focus her limited funding on gas to get child to and from these activities.

A step father is caring for his two step children as the mother works her treatment plan. He is basically a single father trying to make ends meet and the children are getting older and have more expenses. He has limited support in the area. He is very proactive in using community resources to help with utilities and rent as needed, but some months are more expensive than others. The father is being asked to complete some services through the Department needs some assistance in gas to be sure he can be compliant through the case as well as transport the children. He has been utilizing Medicaid rides as able. Gift cards to help with gas would assist this father in using his limited finances to meet the children's other needs.
A gift card with anything from $50-$200 would be very helpful.
