High Urgency Request
Employed parent had just purchased a vehicle and it was stolen. Parent is now in need of assistance purchasing an electric scooter. Parent only has enough for rent, food, essentials, and bills since parent's savings went to the vehicle that was stolen and still hasn't been located. Providing financial assistance to purchase the electric scoter would make it easier for parent to get from one bus stop to another to her court ordered services weekly, without making parent late to work and having the chance to get fired. With parent complying with case plan, this will move parent's case closer to reunification with children.

One of my most beloved clients, a beautiful, vibrant, brilliant young foster youth, aged 20, passed away on January 17th. Her sister, who is also a former foster youth, is in charge of planning the funeral services - and is truly struggling for funds. Her sister is an incredible young woman, who has helped raise her own siblings. Her sister is getting some assistance from DCFS, and have set up a gofundme - but they are still not able to afford the burial and service. Any assistance would be appreciated. If you are even willing to circulate the gofundme, that would also help.

Two parents have turned the garage into a living space in the back of Grandpa's home. They do have two space heaters already but they need at least two more to actually feel some heat. They have one huge one facing the kids beds and one tiny one facing theirs. Children are allowed to go in the home but to make it more comfortable they said they would be open to one or two more space heaters. Help with the weather conditions going on outside and feel more comfortable in their temporary living space. They can take the heaters to the shed they will be getting soon.

Three elementary age students and their grandmother need support with housing. They are currently homeless. They are staying at hotel; Metro Lutheran Ministries is currently covering the cost. MLM is only able to pay for their hotel stay until Sunday, February 5th at 11am. They could benefit from their hotel being extended for another week. The front desk can only accept payment in person, not over the phone. It is $68.14 per day. The children and guardian have fled trauma and violence from another state. This social worker and the guardian have called all local shelters and supportive housing programs. Each shelter is full or has a wait list. The family is on the wait list for Hillcrest and Restart Family Shelter.

Mother has three children that have been returned to her care. The mother is in process of moving into a better home for her family but unfortunately her home was broken into and everything in the home was stolen. The mother is devastated and at the bare minimum needs a stove. Caregiver is a single mother of 3 young girls all under the age of 5. She recently lost all of her furniture and most of her belongings due to a pipe bursting in her apartment causing major water damage in her apartment. Caregiver had to relocate as a result of the damage, and she recently found a new apartment. She utilized all of her resources to move into the new apartment and she does not have the financial resources to purchase new beds and bedding at this time. The children are home on a monitored return and are doing well. The mother is doing well to provide for her family and could use this assistance to assist with keeping the family together and provide for their needs currently until she is able to rebuild.

Caregiver is a single mother of 3 young girls all under the age of 5. She has been a victim of domestic violence and she has no biological family in the state of Texas. She managed to develop a good relationship with the paternal grandmother of one of her children and that is her only support system. The Department assists her with providing daycare and she was recently approved for housing. She was in an apartment and unfortunately had to leave the apartment with her 3 young children unexpectedly 3 days before Christmas due to pipes bursting from freezing temperatures. The caregiver lost all of her beds and furniture as a result of this water damage to her apartment. She has struggled to get into a new apartment and is in the process of trying to rebuild. She does not currently have any furniture aside from 2 air mattresses and a pack and play. The mother is working from home and trying to save up to replace what was lost from the water damage, but she is struggling to get back on her feet. The assistance of the beds and a couch for her children would take off some of the stress until she is able to fully get back on her feet.

I am a Social Services Worker III for Tulare County Child Welfare Services. I currently have a relative resource parent (foster parent) on my caseload who relocated from Humboldt County to Los Angeles County and is unable to pass the resource family approval licensing in Los Angeles County due to not having appropriate mattresses for the children. The children in his care consist of a three (3) year old male and a one (1) year old female. Since they relocating to Los Angeles County, the relative resource parent has not received any foster care funding due to not having his home/license approved and is experiencing a financial hardship at this time, thus making it difficult for him to purchase the items needed for the children. Assisting the relative resource parent with appropriate mattresses (crib, twin) would help to ensure the approval of his foster care license, as well as, avoid any placement disruption for the children in his care. Thank you for your consideration and efforts in this matter.

There is parent that is in need of Dining table, High Chair, Children’s Table with Chairs (suitable for a 5 y/o to utilize for homework, read, and write), clothing for a baby boy currently wearing size 12 months and size 3 in shoes, and 5 y/o boy currently wearing size 5 and size 10 in shoes. While she is able to provide necessities of the children, she has tried to provide the requested items individually but has not been successful. Although the parent is having these challenges, she is committed to maintaining their new household/family dynamic without the support of her former partner, as she does not want to place her children in a dangerous, tumultuous, and traumatic environment. During my work with the parent, I have identified the following strengths: the mother is resilient, nurturing, and protective of her children. For these reasons and more, I am advocating for the parent to have the needs identified met. Having these needs met will provide a safe environment for the children, enhance the children’s emotional, physical, and educational well-being, and improve parental capacity. If the needs are not met, the baby won’t have a safe space to eat meals, the child will have to do his homework on the floor, and the family will have to eat standing, on the floor, or one at a time on the only safely functioning chair their current dining set has. Lastly, the children are of age where they are growing at a rapid rate and will outgrow their current clothing.

We spoke with a boy in 6th grade today who had holes in his shoes and said his mom bought him a new pair but they were too small. He shared that he doesn't want Walmart shoes, because he gets bullied and made fun of. The family is struggling financially, but having a brand new pair of Nike's (size 10.5) would help this student's self worth and self esteem according to several of his teachers. He just requested any color but white because of having to wear them outdoors. The boy has an older brother with severe behavioral issues and we are trying to lessen the burden on the parents and help this boy feel included.
