Pioneer Drive Baptist Church

A young single mother who lives with her two children under three is renting a trailer which has a broken AC. The rental management has come to look at the unit but refuses to do any repairs stating it is brand new despite it not working. 9 month old child went to the hospital on Tuesday due to 104 fever due to heat exhaustion from lack of AC and then last night had a seizure due to heat exposure. The family has no local support and has no where they can go to escape the heat. It is expected to be close to 100 degrees all weekend and will only get hotter as the summer has just started. The single mother had to stay in the Salvation Army over night with her children just to have access to AC. I am requesting a window unit or indoor ac unit (or funds for these) to allow the mother to return to her home with her children and be able to comfortably live in her trailer over the summer and avoid any further health complications with her 9 month old child due to heat exposure which could lead to further serious physical harm.

A 14 year old teenage boy does not have a home and was able to be accepted into a kinship placement to help support him. The week that he was able to move in, the kinship placement which has 3 kids of her own, had a water leak that needed to be fixed but did not find out until after it had already leaked a lot of water and now she is stuck trying to pay a large water bill on her income working as a nurse at Hendrick. She requested to get some help paying for this bill as she is trying to provide for her kids as well as the teenage boy she is taking in to help give him a safe home environment. If this is not met, kinship caregiver may not be able to keep the foster kid due to the additional expenses and difficulties paying for the water bill.

The family moved from Chicago, IL last year and the mother has had a hard time obtaining stable employment. They are a very low income family on section-8 housing. Mother is wearing winter clothes even in warm weather because she does not have the income to purchase clothing for herself. She is moving apartments and needs a sofa or couch, a dining table and dining chairs, plates, dishes, and utensils, kitchen towels, anything that might help her settle into a new apartment. She is also looking for a church to go to and would appreciate any help in the community. She is a single mother with a seven year old daughter and a ten year old son both who had learning delays.
