Stabilize Housing Insecurity

The local family has faced an unimaginable loss as they lost their home and all their belongings in the Eaton wildfire that devastated our Altadena community. They are now left with only a few pictures and clothes that they grabbed as they raced out of their home, and now facing the emotional and financial challenges of starting over. They have always been pillars of support in their family and community. As a retired senior living on a fixed income, lost both his residence of 26 years and his primary mode of transportation in the fire. Although he has received insurance payouts for the dwelling and contents, these funds were either directed to third parties or are insufficient to cover the immense costs of rebuilding a home in today’s market, They are temporarily renting a home in Studio City at a high cost. They plan to stay in this housing for 10–12 months while they rebuild their lives and prepare for permanent housing. However, the high rent, coupled with their limited income, places them under considerable financial strain. Supporting them with one month’s rent will help bridge a critical gap during this transition period, allowing him to preserve personal funds for the monumental task of rebuilding.

Stabilize Housing Insecurity

Aself-employed bodyworker (massage, stretching, movement) who has been serving her community in Altadena and Los Angeles for the past three years lived alone in a rented 800-square-foot house that was completely destroyed in a fire earlier this year. Her home was a total loss due to the fire. Since January 7, she has had to relocate eight times, often without assistance, and is currently staying in temporary housing. Her housing situation will become more stable starting July 16, when she moves into a long-term rental with a monthly rent of $2,000. However, the toll of repeated displacements and the lack of household items has made this transition extremely difficult. She had no renters insurance and therefore received no compensation for the loss of her personal property or relocation expenses. As a self-employed bodyworker, she had to close her practice for three weeks due to hazardous air quality and personal trauma, resulting in a drop in income. Her specific needs include: Security deposit for her new rental and First month rent. She missed out on furniture drives and relief distributions earlier this year because she had no secure place to store items. She is now starting from scratch and deeply needs help to make her new space functional and livable. This financial assistance will help her settle into her first stable home in months and recover a sense of peace and normalcy after a long period of displacement, grief, and instability.

Stabilize Housing Insecurity

A single man has been taking care of his mom, living in Altadena in their rental home for the last 6 years. He is a lifelong Altadenian. He grew up in Altadena and works in Altadena. His heart is for his community. He does security and has been working at most of the local events (Red Cross events, giveaways, etc) and because he has been working, he has not always been able to benefit from the events as a survivor. He and his mom lost everything in the fire. Unfortunately they did not have renters insurance. They were able to find very temporary housing for the last few months at an expensive price point. He has now been able to find housing for July move -in but is in need of deposit and first month.

Stabilize Housing Insecurity

A single mother and her daughter moved in with her parents 4 months before the fires so she could take care of her parents. They were able to live together for four months before the fires started. They stayed in the house as long as they could, she sent her daughter and her parents to a hotel and she stayed back at the house to literally fight the fire. They were renting their home and did not have renters insurance and so she felt like she needed to do everything in her power to keep the fires from taking over the house. Fire got on the roof and damaged it, but thankfully it did not burn the house down. Because of the fire damage, they lost their furniture, beds, and clothing due to excessive smoke damage. They had to stay in a hotel until most of the house was cleaned and ready for them to move back. 4 weeks ago, her job closed down. She's currently on unemployment and looking for a job. She has been working so hard at helping her mother and daughter through the fire and the grief of loss.

Help Improve a Child's Safety/Wellbeing

I am reaching out to kindly request a donation of two pairs of sneaker shoes for two of our students who are currently experiencing financial hardship. At this time students are wearing shoes that are severely worn and falling apart, posing safety concerns and impacting their overall well-being. One student is female 16 and she wears a size 7.5 and sibling is male 13 and wears 5 boys/mens.

Your support in providing a replacement would make a meaningful difference in their daily comfort and confidence as they attend summer school.

Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

I am requesting assistance for a 42 year old father who has 4 dependents, although they don't live together at the moment, they depend on him monetarily; 2 children ages 15 and 16. The father's 65 year old mother depends on him for her medications. The father's 19 year old son, who is having difficulty finding employment due to his disability - lost his right arm at the age of 14. The father lost his construction work tools in the California wildfires and is seeking assistance in replacing them, the cost is quite high, but he will be grateful for any assistance, he stated that he would just like to be able to get back to work, to be able to sustain his family. We are trying to assist the father to purchase much needed tools to be able to work and keep supporting his family.

Help Improve a Child's Safety/Wellbeing

This request is for urgent rental assistance for a mother who has demonstrated significant progress in stabilizing her life and reuniting with her 11-year-old son following previous involvement with DCFS. After completing her services with DCFS and regaining custody, mother maintained a safe and nurturing environment for her son for the past seven months. Mother is currently employed at a small packing company; however, recent reductions in hours—combined with the unexpected burden of a medical bill and necessary car repairs—have severely impacted her ability to meet rent obligations. Mother currently resides in a converted garage, the only available shelter for her and her child. She has fallen behind on rent for June and is unable to pay for July, putting her at imminent risk of eviction. Without immediate assistance, the family faces displacement and possible homelessness. The mother would be forced to live in her car with her 11-year-old son, a circumstance that would jeopardize the child’s safety and emotional well-being. Stable housing is critical to maintaining a secure, structured environment for the child who has already experienced prior disruptions. By resolving this emergency housing need, the mother can focus on increasing work hours, addressing basic needs, and continuing to parent effectively. This support will help prevent a housing crisis that could threaten the permanency of the child’s placement and the mother’s reunification success. Thank you.

Help Improve a Child's Safety/Wellbeing

Our client's case just closed and we represent her as the parent. She has 2 children, ages 3 and 9 months. She just recently moved into her own apartment with her children with hardly anything. She has no money and is no longer receiving funding, as her case closed. She is in need of food for her and her children, as she stated that they have nothing to eat. She also needs clothing for her daughters who wears a size 3T/4T (3 year old) and the baby wears a size 9 to 12 months. She was also requesting a toddler bed for the 3 year old. It is my hope that we can help this family.

Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

A 17-year-old foster youth, a recent immigrant and primarily Spanish-speaking, has found comfort and joy in reading as she adjusts to a new country and language. Her favorite hobby is reading young adult fiction—especially in Spanish, which helps her feel connected to her roots while continuing to grow.

She is hoping to receive a Kindle and an Amazon gift card so she can access books in her native language and continue exploring stories that inspire and empower her.

This small gesture would mean so much to her, offering both comfort and a creative outlet as she builds a new life here. Thank you for considering this heartfelt request.

I have attached a kindle. It does not have to be this exact one. The gift card is to buy books on the kindle. We are asking for $50 but anything would be appreciated.

Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

This young lady recently graduated high school and is preparing to go into college in the fall. She currently lives with a single mother who is not actively involved in her life. The student has been able to maintain a 3.0 GPA during all her years in high school. She is actively involved in extra curricular activities and in her community. She would greatly benefit from this summer camp experience among her peers before she goes off to college.
