This request is for a mom and her 3 month old baby boy, who are in desperate need of a new stroller. Mom was previously in an in-patient drug treatment program for parents with her son, where she was provided a stroller to use by the program. Mom has been doing wonderfully and graduated from that program, but she had to give the stroller back when she moved out. Mom is in a new outpatient program and has moved to a sober living facility where she has been able to keep her son with her, but she no longer has a way to safely and comfortably bring her with him when she leaves the facility. A new stroller would open up this family's world and help mom keep her son close and safe. Mom takes public transportation a lot, to get to work and her various services, so a more compact or travel stroller would be ideal. Mom previously had an Evenflo stroller, but she is not picky at all and would be happy as long as she has some kind of stroller - she is willing to make whatever is available work for her and her son! Funding this request helps support a hardworking, dedicated mom in ultimately reunifying with her very young baby boy, who she has fought to show up and be present for since he was removed from her custody shortly after his birth.

Family consists of 20-year-old mother and father and 2 month old infant. Family is going through a financial hardship as they had to quickly find a place to live prior to infant arriving since their previous home did not allow children. Father is working part time not giving them enough funds to rent an apartment. Family rented a room in a back house and are paying an excessive amount for the room, not allowing them to have much funds for infant's necessities. Mom does not have a vehicle and goes where needed by walking and bus. This family would greatly benefit from having a stroller to be able to facilitate everyday activities and would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Client is a young mother who recently re-entered foster care. During our conversation, the client expressed a need for a crib for her baby. She is currently unemployed, having recently lost her job, and is actively seeking employment opportunities. At this time, she is not eligible for financial assistance through DCFS.

Client shared that obtaining a crib would alleviate a major stressor, allowing her to focus on job searching and stabilizing her situation. The crib is essential for ensuring her baby has a safe sleeping environment. Client is hopeful that, with the right support, she will be able to meet her parenting goals and provide a secure home for her child.

We are requesting immediate support for a homeless mother whose only vehicle is currently out of commission. She has secured a trusted mechanic who is ready to do the work — we simply need help covering the cost of the repair.

Reliable transportation is essential for this mother to ensure her child gets to school on time each day and for her to maintain steady employment. She is working hard to transition out of homelessness, and this car is her only means of transportation.

Without this vehicle, her child’s education and her ability to provide for her family are at serious risk. Your support will remove a major barrier for this family and help them continue moving toward stability and self-sufficiency.

I am requesting assistance with a crib and a mattress for this family. The family is composed of the parents and four children (ages 4y, 6y, 8y, and 11mo). The mother is a stay-at-home mother; the father is employed and is the sole financial provider for the family. The 11-month-old child is currently co-sleeping in the same bed as the parents. The mother requested assistance in obtaining a crib and a mattress for the baby since at this time the parents cannot afford to buy one. If the crib and the mattress are provided to the family, it would ensure a safe sleep environment for the child and it would reduce the risk of SIDS.

The mother is currently working as a security guard and as a Lyft driver for extra income. Mother reported that the family is struggling financially and asked for resources to a food bank. The mother is also requesting $200 gift card to food 4 less.

I am currently working with a family in need. The household includes a mother and her three children—two boys, ages 11 and 6, and a 5-month-old daughter. The mother is incredibly resilient and has navigated many challenges throughout her journey in motherhood. At present, she is unemployed and under significant stress due to the father's absence from the home and his lack of support, particularly in caring for their 6-year-old son, who has been diagnosed with autism and requires high levels of care. The family lives in a single-family home with very worn out and damaged furniture and limited clothing. Currently, the mother shares a mattress with both of her sons and her infant daughter. To help improve their living conditions and promote the children’s safety and comfort, the Department would like to assist the family in obtaining the following items: bedding, and a double seat stroller. By providing these basic necessities would not only ease the mother’s emotional and financial burdens but also allow the children to have their own beds, helping them get proper rest to start their days well. TWO REQUESTS ARE BEING SUBMITTED FOR THIS FAMILY (one for the bedding and a second for the double stroller).

We have a single mother who is in need of a convertible car seat for her son. The mother left the baby’s father who was the abuser. Currently, the baby has a infant car seat that he has outgrown. The mother does not have any family supports in the state and she is currently struggling financially. Mother takes care of the son's basic needs, but she cannot afford anything beyond this. The mother is in the process of going back to school and looking for a job so that she can support herself and her 1-year-old son. The referred family is requesting assistance with making payment for a past due balance on their electricity bill. Mother is currently experiencing financial hardships, and is not currently working, and the family cannot allocate funds towards making this payment. The family has been using flashlights in the evenings to move around the home, as there is no light. They have also been using a cooler to store their food as there is no electricity for the fridge. The family would be appreciative of any help and want to explore all options to make their children as comfortable as possible at home.”

Youth male is requesting an electric guitar to promote the acquisition of coping skills to support his diagnoses of ADHD and PTSD. The youth is currently in the process of being adopted by his Paternal Uncle who has helped to stabilize the youth. The family is low income and the Paternal Uncle is the sole care provide for the child. Prior to placement in his uncle’s home, the youth transitioned to 9 prior foster homes. The youth has extensive trauma and has previously been prescribed medication to support behavior management. The youth has never met his mother and has been in foster care the duration of his young life. The youth was beginning to stablish a bond with his biological father who unexpectedly passed away in prison in 2023. The youth continues to struggle with emotional dysregulation and appropriate conflict resolution which often results in verbal and physical altercations at school and verbal disputes at home. DCFS continues to strongly encourage ongoing participation in therapy, however; the youth is in the rapport building stage. This assistance will help support the family during their time of financial needs and simultaneously facilitate the youth having a positive outlet to support emotional regulation. DCFS has assisted the family by providing assistance with clothes, electronics and additional referrals. Good evening, we have a high school student that is not able to focus in school due to the family struggle. The mother lost her job during the Wild Fires and is not working. She is the sole provider since the father is very sick and not doing well. This family is very concerned about becoming homeless, they are working on getting assistance but at this time they are on a very long waiting list for services.
